PITTARD, Duncan Henry 16 Mar 1891 24 Jul 1930

(h/o Edna Jo Puryear Pittard)

(s/o Charles Grandison and Metta Letita Harwell Pittard)

Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen 30 Jul 1930

The unexpected and lamentable death of Duncan Pittard cast a gloom over the entire community where he was honored and loved by all who knew him. He was a popular favorite, and his loss is deeply felt, not only by his devoted wife, his aged parents, brothers, and sisters, but by a large circle of devoted friends and admirers. "His sun went down while it was yet day," ere, he had reached the noontide of life, cut short his career filled with good deeds, and gave rich promise of greater things in the future. We seldom find a young man who was so intensely interested al all the better things of life. It is hard to realize he is no longer among the living, his beautiful, sunny life will be sadly missed in the home, the community and the church. Enterprising, industrious, frugal, gentle, unselfish and loving. He loved humanity, not a mere

sentiment, but a real passion to which he gave expressions in his never tiring acts of devotion and his ceaseless efforts to aid them in every way, and by every means that lay in his power. The ray that flowed from his sunny, cheerful life was a bow in the darkest cloud. If conditions and surroundings were not favorable to day, he expected a better morrow. When circumstances were at the worst that they would become better. Hope kindled her star in the darkest sky for the deadliest malady she has a medicine and for the deepest wound a balm. We extend our sincere and heart-felt sympathyto all whose lives have been saddened by the going away of this good man. Duncan H. Pittard, son of Mr and Mrs Charlie Pittard was born March 16, 1891, married Miss Edna Joe Puryear, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Puryear. He is survived by his wife, father and mother, three brothers and one sister. The writer conducted his funeral from Moriah Church before a large gathering of friends and loved ones, after which services at the grave by the beautiful and deeply impressive Masonic burial. T. E. Hudson.

Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen 10 May1917 Bodenham “Violet”

God came into our midst on last Tuesday morning as 1 o'clock and called away the sweet little bud of life from the home of J. J. Pittard. Little James, Jr., was only two weeks and three days old. Only given long enough to wrap his little life into theirs to draw their thoughts to heaven where he has gone to wait their coming. There will be no pain no sorrows and no sad good byes. The little grave was covered with lovely white flowers emblems of his pure life. We extend our hearts full of sympathy to the bereaved young mother and father and beg of them

not to weep. He's now a little angel looking and beckoning to you to look up and prepare to meet him in heaven where there is brightness and joy forever and ever.
