BARSHEARS, John William __ ___ 18__ 02 Aug 1922

(h/o Mamie Carr Barshears) md 05 Jul 1911 GCT (Unmarked Grave - Obituary) (s/o James R. and Lizzie Chapman Barshears)

August 9, 1922: Found in Lawrence County paper

John Barshears, who was a share cropper on the farm of M. L. White, was on his way to Pulaski last Wednesday with a wagon load of crossties, was instantly killed on Anthony’s Hill when the team he was driving ran away with him throwing him under the brake and hind axle after both hind wheels were crushed to the ground. He was dragged a considerable distance, bruising and mangling his body almost beyond recognition. Had it not been for the team, it would have been almost impossible for him to have been identified. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death.

The Pulaski Citizen 10 Aug 1922 Agnes “Rosebud”

Can it be, can it be, that one so true and noble is gone? Yes gone, but not forgotten by those who knew him, for to know him, was to love him. On last Wednesday morning at break of a new day, God sent one of his angels and wafted the spirit of John William Brashears to the home on hight. He was hauling lumber down the hill at Goodspring, when he was thrown from his wagon and killed instantly. His neck and right arm were broken, and his bodybadlybruised. ‘Twas sad indeed, but the Lord’s will be done, not hours; and Iwill say to the bereaved family “Grieve not for he is gently resting away from toil and care, awaiting the resurrection morning to be ushered into the pearly gates, where sin nor sorrow ne’er enter, but all is joy and love.” He was buried at Moriah Thursday and leaves a wife, three children, a brother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Baptist church and was always faithful in discharging his duties there and elsewhere and will be sadly missed by everybody.
