Funeral services for Vincent Frederick “Vince” May, 88, retired farmer, and former magistrate were held at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at Bennett-May Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Lloyd L. Hickman and the Rev. Samue Creamer. Burial took place in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Mr. May died Monday morning, June 7, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Conrad Sawyers, Fayetteville, where he hadresided for several years. A native of Giles County, he was born April 17, 1877, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. H. May. Mr. May had served as magistrate of the Fifth Civil District in Giles County for a period of 18 years. In addition to the daughter, Mr. May is survived by one son, Harvey May, Elkton; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Jeff May, Tioga, Texas; and one sister, Mrs. John Hazelwood, Chattanooga. Funeral services for Mrs. Zada Stafford May, 76, Bodenham housewife, were held at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at Mt. Moriah Presbyterian Church. Rites were conducted by T. D. Anderson, Methodist layman, and the Rev. Mack Pinkelton, Baptist minister, and burial took place in the church cemetery. Mrs. May died at 10:21 o’clock Monday morning, August 1, at

Giles County Hospital after a three months’ illness. A lifelong resident of the county, she was born November 26, 1879, the daughter of the late John Stafford and Sarah Petty Stafford. She was a member of the Greenwood Church of Christ. Mrs. Mayis survived byher husband, Vince F. May, a former member of County Court for many years; one daughter, Mrs. Conroy Sawyers, Fayetteville; one son, HarveyMay, Elkton; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ewing Reed; and one brother, Walter Stafford, both ofBodenham. Miss Ida Florence McKnight of near Bodenham was found dead in bed Saturday morning by her brother Nod McKnight with whom she resided. She evidently had been dead several hours and heart disease is supposed to have been the cause of death. Miss McKnight’s burial took place at Mt. Moriah Mr. Compton conducting a funeral service. She was a most estimable young woman and her death is much regretted by her friends who sympathize deeply with the bereaved brother.

Mrs. Malcolm McNeese, 27-year-old mother of two small sons, was fatally burned early Saturday morning by an explosion of a mixture of kerosene and gasoline, which she was using to start a fire in the kitchen stove at her home in South Pulaski. Mrs. McNeese was enveloped in flames, when the fuel in a partly-filled five-gallon can exploded and set fire to her clothing and to the area of the kitchen in which she stood. Her husband, who came to the rescue from the adjoining room, succeeded in moving her from the room and in smothering the flames by wrapping her in a bedspread. Mrs. McNeese was immediatelyrushed to Pulaski Hospital, where she died about four hours later. Her husband, in the meantine, was undergoing treatment at the hospital for severe burns on his face, arms and hands, which he suffered in the vain effort to save his wife’s life. Mrs. McNeese was the former Miss Willie Ruth Tatum, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Tatum, whose home is on Rural Route 2, Pulaski. She was a member of the Methodist Church at Campbellsville, in which communityshe formerlylived. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. McNeese is survived by her sons, Robert and Vernon; and two brothers, Henryand Newton Tatum; and three sisters, Misses Willa Dean, Ann Tatum, and Mrs. Katherine Taylor, all of Giles County. Funeral services were held at three o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Bennett-May Funeral Home by the Rev. J. C. Elkins, pastor of Olivet Methodist Church. Burial was in the Moriah Cemetery, near Pulaski.
