Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen __ Jul 1932

On the afternoon of July 21, 1932, Charles Morgan Parker, ceased his two months struggle with illness and in the same quiet, gentle way in which he had lived, he closed his eyes and slipped away into the Beyond. His passing marked the first break in a happy family circle, formed forty-eight years before by his marriage with Flora Hubbell. Seven children grew up in that home, and all had remained within a few miles of father and mother with few weeks ever passing without a gathering of the entire family at the old home place. In the sixty-nine and one-half years since the Christmas Day he was born, Mr. Parker had known his share of the sorrows of life. He had been the last one of his immediate family for a number of years. His eight brothers of whom he often spoke had been buried in widely scattered places. He had known all the toil and sacrifice necessary in rearing a large family and in giving them the advantages of a comfortable home and the preparation for upright Christian living. Mr. Parker was a man of few words, quiet and unassuming in manner, very strict in his moral principles and preferring to set his boys an example by his own patience, industry and honesty, and his unfailing kindness and consideration toward his beloved wife–than by many words. He cared little for outside diversions, and found seeminglyhis greatest pleasure in riding over his pastures and pride in his young lambs, beef cattle and other live stock. He showed his loyalty to the Church of Christ in which he had been an elder for a number of years by his presence at every service that his health permitted, by his strict observance of the Lord’s Day in his home and his interest in the welfare of the Greenwood congregation. His interest in his community was expressed in his love of his neighbor and his willingness to give of his time and means in every movement for betterment.

His kind of sympathy took the practical one of aid for those in distress. And his own family never knew of his many deeds of kindness except as others told them in gratitude. After funeral services at the home conducted by Elder Maurice Clymore he was laid to rest beneath a blanket of flowers in the Moriah Cemetery in the community where his boyhood days had been spent. He is survived by his wife, and the following children: Mrs. Marvin Puryear, Mrs. Tommie Wells, Herschell, Leslie, Cecil and Charles Parker. Also four young grandchildren, Rebecca Puryear, Wendell, Joe and Ethel Parker. They grieve not as those without hope but, though now the night may seem dark, they wait; “The dawn when those angel faces smile, Which we have loved long since and lost awhile.”
