Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen __ Apr 1982

Mrs. Ruth Estes Pittard, 83, Waynesboro, died on Sunday, April 4, 1982, at Wayne County Hospital. A native of Wayne County, she was the wife of the late Fred Eugene Pittard. She was a retired beautician. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Tuesday, April 6, at Bennett-May Chapel, with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Rev. Mack Pinkelton officiating. Survivors include two sons, Fred Pittard, Paducah, Kentucky, and Homer Frank Pittard, Houston, Texas; one brother, Taylor Estes, Clardale, Arizona; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jim Pittard died suddenly Wednesday morning. The burial and funeral service will be at Moriah, the funeral conducted by Rev. T. E. Hudson, but the time had not been definitely set at hour of going to press. It will probably be Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Nearly all the neighbors and other members of the family are sick with flu.

Mrs. Dallie Mai Poarch, 53, died Tuesday night, March 5, in a Nashville hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a. m. Thursday, March 7, in the chapel of London Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. J. Mabrey officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. A native of Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Amis and Delia Chapman Bowen. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Her husband, who survives, is Lenzie Poarch. Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Mrs. David Daley, Prospect, and Mrs. Homer Wright, Chapel Hill; three sons, William, Charles, and Louis Poarch, all of Lewisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Browning, Texas, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, Pottsivlle; one brother, Turner Bowen, Petersburg; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Lenzie D. (Mike) Poarch, 91, of Lewisburg, died October 16, 1997, at Marshall Medical Center. Mr. Poarch was a native of Giles County and the son of the late John and Amanda Somers Poarch. He was a farmer and a member of the United Methodist Church. Services were held Saturday at London Funeral Home in Lewisburg with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Survivors include daughters, Gina Gertrude Daly of Pulaski and Joyce Wright of Shelbyville; sons, Bill Poarch of Lewisburg and Lewis Poarch of Belfast; brother and sister, Pete Poarch of Cornersville and Ida George of Pulaski; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Royce M. Powell, 69, Pharmacist, of Coral Gables, Fla., died Sunday, March 19, in a hospital in that city. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p. m. Thursday, March 23, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, with the Rev. Tommy Curtis officiating. Mr. Powell, a native of Giles County, was born September 6, 1897, the son of the late Calvin Taylor and Mary Etha Hagan Powell. He had lived in Coral Gables, Fla., for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katherine Parsons Powell; one son, Lt. Col. Royce M. W. R. Pratt, 22, Giles Countian residing in Nashville, was killed in a traffic accident that occurred in Nashville about 8 o’clock Saturday night when the automobile he was driving crashed into a telephone pole then into a tree on Jones Street. Two other occupants of the car escaped injuryin the accident that relatives said resulted when Pratt lost control of the car. Pratt has resided in Nashville for the last several months and was employed at the Richman Dairy Company plant. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Monday at Bennett-May Funeral Home in Pulaski by two Methodist ministers ofNashville. Burial was in Moriah Cemeterynear Pulaski. A native of Giles County, Mr. Pratt is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pratt, Nashville; a sister, Mrs. Waylon Denton, Frankewing; two brothers, John H. Pratt and Robert E. Pratt, both of Nashville.

Moriah Cemetery. Mrs. Prentice, a native of Giles County, was born May26, 1893, the daughter of the late John and Annie Vick. Her husband, the late John W. Prentice, died January 6, 1967. She was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Rose Wright, Mrs. Reba Prentice, Mrs. Anna Peden, Pulaski, and Mrs. Ruth Stone, Campbellsville; one son, John Prentice, Wales; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jerome Prindle, 56, lifelong resident of Giles County, were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church in Pulaski, with the rites conducted by the Rev. Mack Pinkelton and the Rev. R. E. Wilsford, Baptist ministers. Burial took place in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Mrs. Prindle died unexpectedly at 8:30 o’clock Saturday morning May 10, at the home in Pulaski following a brief illness. The former Miss Etta Mac Rose, she was born April 4, 1902, the daughter of the late John K. Rose and Annie K. (Betsy) Rose Rose, resident of the Fourteenth Civil District. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Prindle is survived by her husband, Jerome Prindle; one daughter, Louise Prindle; three brothers, Merrell Rose, Floyd Rose, and Luther Rose, all of MauryCounty; and three sisters, Mrs. BufordNelson and Mrs. Marvin Shrader, Fourteenth District, and Mrs. Charlie Page, Lewisburg. Funeral services for Fred Will Prindle, 65, who died suddenly about one o’clock Thursday afternoon, March 2, while on a business trip in Lawrence County, were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, with the rites conducted by the Rev. L. G. Gatlin, pastor of the church. Burial took place in Moriah Cemetery. Mr. Prindle, a native of Giles County, spent the greater part of his life here, where he had been a salesman for many years for Butler-Warren. For the past seven years he had been a salsesman for the Pulaski Funeral Home, a position he held at the time of his death. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Prindle is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dewey Boshers; two sons, Jerome and Roy Prindle; four grandchildren; all of Pulaski; and one sister, Mrs. Ervin McLean, Giles County.

Mrs. Roxie Prindle, wife of Will Prindle, after lingering many months, passed away Sunday morning, March 20, at their home in Pulaski. The body was buried at Moriah. Mr. and Mrs. Prindle formerly lived at Bodenham, then for some time in the 18th District. But for the last few years have lived in Pulaski where Mr. Prindle is a salesman for Butler Warren Company. Much sympathy is extended the bereaved family.

Funeral services for Edgar Allen Puryear, 51, who was found dead of gunshot wounds near Donelson, Tuesday morning, November 17, will be conducted at Bennett-May Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. Robert Hall will officiate and burial will be in Moriah Cemetery. Mr. Puryear was reportedly found in a wooded area not far from his Donelson home after telling members of the family that he intended to go hunting. Metro Medical Examiner, Dr. W. J. Core ruled the death apparent suicide. A native of Giles County, Mr. Puryear had lived in Donelson for a number of years and was employed by TVA. He was the son of Mrs. Elna Hamlett Puryear of Giles County and the late Robert Edgar Puryear. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Talise Forsythe Puryear; two sons, Marion Puryear and Ronald Keith Puryear; and a daughter, Claudia Gale Puryear, all of Donelson; three sisters, Mrs. Jane LaFern of Pulaski, Mrs. Mattie Bell Chalk of McKenzie, and Miss Louise Puryear of Memphis; one brother, Joe Newton Puryear of Columbus, Ga.

Graveside services for Elna Hamlett Puryear, 93, who died on December 29 at Maury County Hospital, were held at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Cemetery on Thursday, December 31. Roger Reedy and Marlin Goodman officiated at the service. Bennett-May Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Puryear was the wife of the late Robert Edgar Puryear and the daughter of the late Joseph and Belle Cheatham Hamlett. A Giles Countynative and a long-time member of the Moriah Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Puryear is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mattie Belle Chalk of McKenzie, TN, Miss Louise Puryear of Pulaski, Mrs. Jane LaFern of Pulaski; one son, Joseph N. Puryear of Columbus, GA; eight grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Walter Burns of Pulaski, Mrs. Odell Ball of Pulaski and Mrs. Herman Cole of Athens, AL.

Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen 17 Jan 1907

Henry D. Puryear, aged 73 years and 8 months, died at his home in the Vale Mills section on the afternoon of Wednesday of last week. The burial was had (held) at Mt. Moriah Thursday after services by Revs. T. E. Hudson and W. H. Beasley. Mr. Puryear is a a good and substantial citizen, and had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church for 53 years. He is survived by his second wife and several children among whom are Mesdames W. C. Burns, Jim Green, Alex Reed and Newt Puryear. He has a sister in New Orleans, one in Texas, and a brother in Nashville. The Citizen extends sympathy to the bereaved.
