5773 AUST WWI HUGE LOT OF LETTERS AND ASSOCIATED EPHEMEREA. (68 letters, 2 photos and cablegrams, envelopes) attributed to Lieutenant Wilfred Charles Satchell M.C. 19th Bn (18th on RTA) Great set of handwritten letters most on plain paper, some on YMCA letterhead, some on 19th Bn letterhead. Some letters mention significant events during the war, numerous references to some of his friends becoming wounded & KIA. Also action on the Somme; the August offensive; news of his award of the Military Cross read by C.O. at the Mess Parade and of his receiving the M.C Investiture at Buckingham Palace by King George V. Joined AIF 1941 as a 22 year old and served in the Australian Regular Army into the 1950's as a Warrant Officer Class Two. 1 book has some loose pages otherwise all are in good condition. Also included is a chest up period photograph of a soldier wearing an M40 tunic with Russian front ribbon through second tunic buttonhole.
