WORRELL, Allen Henry, (Yako), 80, of 130 Dora Highway, Pulaski, Va., died Wednesday night, March 5, 2003, in the Pulaski Community Hospital after a brief illness, but he won the battle with cancer. He was born in Pulaski, Va. on October 14, 1922, and was the son of the late Columbus Ballard Worrell and Hyskell Andrews Worrell. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur M. Worrell and Otis B. Worrell and by one sister, Irma Worrell Dalton. Mr. Worrell was a life member of DAV Chapter 29, American Legion Post #7, Pulaski and VFW Post #1184, Pulaski. He graduated with every class of Draper High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired with 20 years of service with Sergeant First Class ranking. While in the service he was a member of the Augsburg Baseball Team at his post in Germany and had an outstanding career in the game of football, as well, while in service. He was nicknamed "Whitey." He served in three wars-WWII, Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer and a GREAT VT FAN! Mr. Worrell loved to sit on his back porch and feed his squirrels and crows. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Leslie Renee and Brian Queen, Pulaski; granddaughter, Katie; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Tom Lewis, Richmond, Va.; brother-in-law, Houston Dalton, Chesterton, Ind.; sister-in-law, Violet Pippin Worrell, Pulaski; "loving friend and companion," Karen Graham, Pulaski; "adopted" daughter, Mary Graham, Richmond; "adopted" granddaughter, Catheryne Gambill, Richmond; two very special nieces, Linda Dalton, Chesterton, Ind. and Marie Farris, Newbern, Va.; three nephews. Mr. Worrell will be cremated. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Revs. H.T. and Betty Atkinson officiating. Visiting will be held at the funeral home after the service. Burial will follow at a later date from the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., with full military honors. WORRELL, Jesse Lee, 72, of Shawsville, passed away at his home Thursday, January 18, 2001 and went to be with our Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Vera Spangler Worrell, five brothers, Forrest, Euel, Everett, Paul and Henry Worrell, three sisters, Ida and Goldie Worrell and Elsie Dickerson. Mr. Worrell is survived by his wife, Edna Wells Worrell; three sons, Timmy, Mark (Randy) and his wife, Barbara and Ricky Cline, all of Glade Hill, Va.; special daughter, Jamie Simpkins of Radford, Va. ; grandson, Brian Lee Worrell of Roanoke, Va.; granddaughter, Jessica Worrell of Roanoke, Va.; great-granddaughter, Mariah Lynn Worrell; great-grandson, Casey Lee Martin; eight sisters, Alberta Kelly of Princeton, W.Va., Clara Hale of Dublin, Va., Ocie Conner of Shawsville, Va., Ethel and Wesley McPeak of Pilot, Va., Bessie and Bill Stevens of Elliston, Va., Dorothy and Russell Keaton of Pipestem, W.Va., Willie Hill of Salem, Va., Mildred and Sam Barnett of Bradenton, Fla.; special friends, Rachel Harris of Martinsville, Va. and Debra Kanode of Salem, Va. WRIGHT, Willard E., 70, of Dublin, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2003 at Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born in Bland County on April 29, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene W. and Minnie Ramsey Wright and also a brother, Fairly Wright of Bland County. He attended Bland High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, worked for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. He was President of Vest & Wright, Inc. since 1967 in which time he built apartments, housing subdivisions, motels and other commercial buildings through out the state of Virginia and Tennessee. His greatest goal was trying to help people find affordable housing, and was a promoter for industry and growth through out his community. To this end, he built several thousand housing units. He is survived by his wife, Freda Vest Wright of Dublin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky K. and Gail G. Wright, Greg W. and Cynthia M. Wright, Dublin; three grandchildren, Nicole Wright, Heather Wright, and Cody Wright of Dublin; one brother, Ned R. Wright of Dublin; two sisters, Barbara W. Mabe of Florida, Ilene Wright of Bland County; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at French's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Little Creek Community, Dublin with the Rev. Billy Akers and Rev. C. R. Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Garden, Dublin. The family will receive friends at French's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The A. WURZBURGER, Neva Akers, 68, of 2637 Indian Valley Road, NW Radford, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at New River Valley Medical Center. She was a retired teacher's aide with the Floyd County School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Wurzburger, Jr. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Rev. Kenny and Sue Wurzburger of Willis, and Ray Wurzburger of Dublin; grandchildren, Traci Wurzburger, and Matthew Wurzburger; brother and sister-in-law, James and Jean Akers of Stokesdale, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Ruth W. Cox of Bassett, and Mary S. Akers of Radford; and two special nieces, Brenda A. Callahan of Pulaski, and Judy A. Epperly of Christiansburg. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Elder Larry Hollandsworth and Elder Hale Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Big Sand Cemetery. WYATT, Kathleen Lytton, 93, of Radford, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, December 11, 2001. She was born at Honaker, Va., on October 17, 1908 to the late Tom and Minnie Lytton. She was preceded in death by her late husband, J. Clifford Wyatt and a son, William T. Wyatt. Kathleen is survived by one son, Jon T. Wyatt and his wife, Mary; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor B. Wyatt; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret Hughes and Jo Nell Talton; a brother-in-law, John C. Talton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathleen was a retired teacher having served in the Radford City School System for 24 years. Her teaching career began in a one room school house near Coeburn, Va. She also taught in Kentucky and Tennessee. The family will receive friends at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford, Va. Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services at Fairlawn Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday with interment following in Highland Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Danny Collins will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fairlawn Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford is handling arrangements. |

ROANOKE TIMES February 27, 1977 John Wysor Dies Saturday John Donald WYSOR a prominent figure in southwestern Virginia agriculture and civic affairs, died early Saturday morning in Wythe County Hospital. WYSOR,83, was the owner and operator of the family farm, "Hillcrest" outside of Dublin. Until his retirement he was manager of the Southwest Virginia Production Credit office in Pulaski. He was especially fond of young people and was active in their concerns. From 1922-1945 he resided in Christiansburg and was the first agricultural agent for Montgomery County. While in Montgomery County his 4-H Club livestock judging teams placed highest in the nation. For years he taught. the Young, Men's Bible Class at New Dublin Presbyterian Church and also served on the Pulaski County School Board. Born Aug. 27, 1893, in Dublin he was the son of the late Robert Ed WYSOR and Marguerite BIMPSON WYSOR. He was educated at the old Dublin Institute, Virginia Military Institute, and Pennsylvania State University. During World War I he served as captain and remained in the Army Reserve for many years. After serving in Montgomery County he worked as field representative of the Agriculture Adjustment Administration for Southwest Virginia and was associated with Lindsay-Robinson Co. of Roanoke. He was a member of the Pulaski Science Club, Ruritan International, and a director of the Bank of Dublin. He assisted in the formation of the Pulaski County Lifesaving Crew and was a director. - For 53 -years he was a member of the New Dublin Presbyterian Church and an elder in the Presbyterian Church U.S. He is survived by his widow, Cecil MOOMAW WYSOR; one daughter, Mrs. Archer LACKEY of McLean; three sons, George M. WYSOR of Arlington, John D. WYSOR Jr. of Wytheville, and Chantland WYSOR of Woodridge, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m.. at New Dublin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John K. Boyd and the Rev. Manson B. Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to his home, "Hillcrest," today at 2 p.m. to remain until one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers the family desires memorials to his church or to the Children's Home in Wytheville. |

YOUNG, George Alexander, 57, of 134 Seventh Street, NW, Pulaski, Va., died Thursday morning, February 20, 2003, in Pulaski, Va. He was born in Pulaski, Va. on March 31, 1945, and was the son of the late Fred E. Young, and he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Anne Young Sadler. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, and a graduate of Pulaski High School, Class of 1963. He was a graduate of Danville Technical College. He attended VPI at Wytheville, Va., and he was a graduate of New River Community College. Mr. Young was a former scientist with Kimberly Clark, Atlanta, Ga., where he was in the Research and Development Department. Mr. Young loved drag racing. Surviving are his wife, Terry Young of Pulaski; mother, Mary Z. Young of Pulaski; sister, Margaret Y. Bream of Mobile, Ala.; brother, Fred E. Young, Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, John David Sadler, Jr., Rebekah Sadler Deignan, John Gavin Helton, Eric Scott Helton, Virginia Lee Casey, Fred E. Young, III, Robyn Young Smith; great-nieces and great-nephews, Erin Eckhard, Charles John Deignan, Eric McLees Smith, David Anthony Deignan, Ellison Lackey Helton, Harrison Gamble Smith, Gavin Evans Helton; good friends, Rhonda Hale and family of Pulaski, Va. Marcella Cameron Zirk, 65 years old. Marcella passed away from this world into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father where she died on May 8, 2003 at Beverly Health Care of Martinsville, Va. She formerly resided at 107 Inman Street, Martinsville, Va. She was born on Oct. 29, 1937 in Pulaski the daughter of the late Willie Ray Cameron and the late Sylvia Lee Taylor Cameron. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Garland Thomas Cameron and Kenneth William Cameron. She had been employed as the head housekeeper at the InnKeeper Motel, Collinsville for the last 16 years. Surviving are three daughters, Angela Z. Wood, Martinsville, Pamela Z. Rice, Dalton, Ga., Robyn Z. German, Fredericksburg, Va.; three sons, Randy C. Zirk, Collinsville, Christopher R. Zirk and Clifford L. Zirk both of Martinsville; seven sisters, Mildred C. Eanes, Collinsville, Isabelle Cameron Bacon, Kingsport, Tenn., Almeta C. Jones, Pulaski, Barbara “Minnie” C. Woodbridge, Phonix, Ariz., Loretta C. Clark, Pulaski, Anne C. White, Max Meadows, Zinnia C. Ferrell, Weatherford, Texas. Marcella was educated in the public school system of Pulaski County. She later moved to Washington, D. C. area, there she met her future husband Ivan Zirk. Marcella lived by the Golden Rule “Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You”, one of her main virtues was honesty. Rev. George Hearn presided over the service. The songs requested by the family were; “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill, “Precious Memories”, “In The Sweet Bye and Bye.” A poem was composed by Pam Rice and recited by Rev. Hearn. Marcella was laid to rest on a pretty knoll in Henry Memorial Park in Collinsville as the 23 Psalm was read by Rev. Hearn. Dear love one gone from this world but never forgotten by the ones who love you. |
