New River Depot Va, September 10, 1920 - Mrs. Clara Stone Abell, widow of the late Jno. D. Abell, died at her home here last night at 9:15 o'clock of stomach trouble having been in declining health for several months. The deceased was in her 70th year. She leaves one sister and an adopted daughter, Mrs. L.M. Cratty of Bluefield. Burial will be at Christiansburg tomorrow, Saturday.

Erna F. Adkins of Chesapeake City died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 from natural causes at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 77.
Mr. Adkins was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division in World War II, when he distinguished himself in four campaigns: Normandy, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze battle stars and a bronze service arrowhead and the French Croix de Guerre.
He worked for 20 years as an electrician for Thiokol Chemical Corp. in Elkton, Md., retiring in 1979.

Mr. Adkins also played minor-league baseball briefly, as well as semi-pro baseball and fast-pitch softball with numerous industrial teams.


He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annie McGuire Adkins; two sons, Ernie Lynn Adkins of Durham, N.C. and Gary Crowder of Springfield, Va.; a daughter, Brenda Steller of Smyrna; two brothers, Robert Lowell Adkins of Lucasville, Ohio and Eugene Adkins of McDermott, Ohio; two sisters, Estalene Phipps of Lucasville and Phyllis Collell of Westerville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Landon and Bessie Adkins; two sons, Ernie Wayne Adkins and Neal Adkins; a brother, Earl Adkins; and two sisters, Vonnie Schinkle and Stella Foster.
Services were held Feb. 23 at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Homes, Middletown.
Burial was in Radford, Va.

AGEE, Fleetwood, 81, of Radford, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2000 at his
home. He was born in Roanoke and grew up in Christiansburg. He was retired
from Radford Community Hospital in administration with 38 years of service.
He was an active member of Carter Street United Methodist Church, a veteran
of WW II, having served in the United States Army Air Force, and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vera Pugh Agee;
two daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Agee and John R. Millard of Salem, and Beverly Agee Singleton of Radford; two grandsons, Eric Rush Millard, Ryan Agee Millard of Salem; one brother, Jack M. Agee of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Carter Street
United Methodist Church in Radford with the Rev. Terri Gregory officiating.
Interment will follow in West View Cemetery in Radford. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Carter St. United Methodist Church or Carilion New River Valley Hospice. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

AGEE, WILLIE ROSCOE, age 85, beloved husband, father and papaw of Christiansburg departed this world and went to serve our Lord and Savior in his kingdom on Friday, June 7, 2002. Born in Franklin County to the late Sara Catherine and Floyd Sefus Agee he was also preceded in death by Roy and Margie Agee, Zora Adams, Ruie and Raymond Poff and Eddie Bonham. Roscoe was retried from Burlington Mills after 38 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Ruby Agee; his children and their spouses, who loved him dearly, Ruth Ann and Larry Akers, McCoy, VA, Peggy and Mark Winters, Billy and Donna Agee all of Christiansburg and Bobby Agee of the home, who helped take care of his daddy. Roscoe is survived by seven precious grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Justin and Nicholas Akers, Travis, Kristen and Corey Winters and Dustin and Brandon Agee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Nancy Agee, Bent Mountain, Andrew and Gladys Agee, Christiansburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Walt Dyer, Doris and Jimmy Hawley all of Roanoke, Madeline Bonham, Midway Park, NC, Frances and Charles Lewis, Newbern, NC, Ora and Herman Guthrie, Salem, VA. a brother-in-law, Kenneth Adams, Christiansburg and numerous nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, June 10, at the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by Rev. Dallas Bennett, Jr., Rev. Richard Kingrea and Rev. Mike Reynolds with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church Sunday afternoon where friends may call anytime after 3 PM. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Sunday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service.

Robert Carl Akers, Sr. age 66 of Pulaski passed away Sunday at the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was a member of the Fairlawn Church of God, and was a retired service technician. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Reba Caldwell Akers, and a son, Brian Keith Akers. Survivors include his wife, Anna S. Akers of Pulaski, two daughters, Donna Meredith of Pulaski, and Kathy Taylor of Blacksburg; a son, Robert C. Akers, Jr. of Pulaski; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Ernest Caldwell of Roanoke; and a sister, Mary Sue McDaniel of Dublin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairlawn Church of God with the Rev. Joe Strazzire officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairlawn Church of God. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

2000 at New River Valley Medical Center. She was a member of Belspring
Presbyterian Church and preceded in death by her husband, Graton W. Akers.
Survivors include on sister, Mary T. McClaugherty of Belspring; one
sister-in-law, Claudine Tice, Belspring; three nephews, David A. Tice of
Wisconsin, John Tice, Blacksburg, and A.W. McClaugherty of Radford; one
niece, Cindy White, of Dublin; and seven great-nephews and one great-niece.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the
Belspring Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Interment
will follow in Sunrise Burial Park, Radford. The family will receive friends

Born June 14, 1906, in Pulaski County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Martin Isaac Dalton and Minnie Whitt Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Akers; two sons, Richard Robert Akers, Donald Lee Akers; eight sisters, Caroline Reynolds, Edna Branscome, Emmalee Padgett, Ellen Rorrer, Opal White, Faye Phillips, Notie Quesenberry, and a twin sister, Mallie D. Gregory; one brother, Colney Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her husband Cecil Akers, a son Richard Akers, brothers Earl and John Hagee, sisters Ruby Sadler, Ozella Novel and Leona Whitt. Surviving are two daughters and spouses, Mary and Albert Trivisonno, Pulaski, Linda and Paul Hall, Pulaski; three grandchildren, Pam Surber, Nathan Hall, Susan Dalton; four great-grandchildren, Jason Surber, Lauren Kenley, Ashley Dalton and Nicole Dalton; three great-great-grandchildren, Austin, Isaac and Gavin; three sisters, Ethel Buchanan, Ruth Humphrey, Frances Hopkins; and sisters-in-law, Mary Hagee and Louise Hagee. Donald Lee AKERS, 62, of 4303 Akers Rd., Draper died Wednesday
afternoon, Jan. 12, 2000 at his home. He was born in Pulaski on Aug. 26,
1937, and was the son of the late John Robert AKERS. He was also preceded in
death by a brother, Robert Richard AKERS. He was a retired employee from
R.A.A.P., Radford. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during
the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Pulaski Moose Lodge #2087.
Surviving are his wife, Violet T. AKERS of Draper; a daughter, Becky JOHNSON of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Scott AKERS of Raleigh, N.C., and John AKERS of Dublin; one grandchild, Latara JOHNSON of Raleigh, N.C.; his mother, Nanny Dalton AKERS of Pulaski; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Aileen and Everett ROOP of Coatsville, Pa., Louise and Clyde CHINAULT of Dublin, Doris MABE of Draper, Ann and Lewis WILLIAMS of Draper; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry Allen and Jean AKERS of Eautaville, S.C., Duane and
