Manipulating Graphical Objects




How To Resize An Object


SUMMARY








  1. Click the object to select it.

  2. Position the pointer over the bottom right sizing handle until it changes to a double-headed arrow . Click and hold down the mouse button and drag down to the right until you reach the size you want, and then release the mouse button.





TIPS



  • If you hold down the key while dragging the resize handle, the object maintains its proportions even though the size is changed.

  • If you hold down the key while dragging the resize handle, the object is anchored to the center of the original position.

  • If you hold down the key while dragging the resize handle, the object is resized in a smaller scale to help you resize the object more accurately.





  1. Click the square to select it.
    Eight resize handles appear around the object when it is selected.


  2. Position the mouse pointer over the lower right resize handle.
    The mouse pointer changes to a double-headed arrow. You can use any other resize handle to change an object’s size.

  3. Drag to the size you want.
    If you drag any of the resize handles at the four corners of the object, you can resize the width and the height of the object simultaneously


  4. Click the circle to select it.
    The resize handles appear around the object when it is selected.


  5. Move your mouse pointer over the lower right resize handle.
    The pointer changes to a double-headed arrow.

  6. Hold down the key and drag to make the circle bigger.
    You will notice that the proportions of the object remain unchanged.

Move An Object


SUMMARY








  1. Position the mouse pointer over the object you want to move.

  2. Hold the mouse button down and drag the object to the position you want.




  1. Position your mouse pointer over the circle.
    You will move the circle to the right.


  2. Hold the mouse button down and drag to the right.
    The circle is moved to the right. If you want to move the object again while the object is selected, you will notice that your mouse pointer changes to, indicating that you are able to move the object.

How To Delete An Object

  1. Click the object to that you want to delete.

  2. Press .






  1. Click the oval object.
    The object is selected.


  2. Press .
    The oval is deleted from the slide.

Rotate and Flip An Object


SUMMARY








  1. Click the object to select it.

  2. Drag the Free Rotate handle to the new direction you want.

  3. Click the Format button.

  4. In the Arrange group, click the Rotate button and then click

Rotate Right 90, Rotate Left 90, Flip Vertical or Flip Horizontal.







  1. Insert a new object – Right Arrow Callout to your slide.
    To insert the shape, click the Insert button. In the Illustrations group, click the Shapes button, and then click Right Arrow Callout under the Block Arrows.


  2. Click the Right Arrow Callout to select it.
    The Right Arrow Callout is selected. Besides the 8 resize handles, you can see that there is a Free Rotate handle and Adjustment handles. The Adjustment handles are exclusively for this object.


  3. Position your mouse pointers over the Free Rotate handle and hold the mouse button down.
    The mouse pointer changes to.

  4. Drag the handle clockwise and then release the mouse button.
    The object is rotated to the direction you have chosen.




  1. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Rotate button and then click Flip Horizontal.
    The Right Arrow Callout is flipped by 180-degrees horizontally as shown below.








How To Group And Ungroup Objects


SUMMARY








  1. Select all the objects that you want to group.

  2. Click the Format button.

  3. In the Arrange group, click the Group button, and then click Group.





TIPS



  • You can only perform the group function after you have selected more than one object.




  1. Create a new Blank slide.
    To create a new blank slide, click the Home button. In the Slides group, click the New Slide button and then click Blank.

  2. Create a square, and fill the square with red.


  3. Create a second square to overlap the red square, and fill it with blue; create a third square to overlap the first and second squares and fill it with yellow.
    The completed slide is shown below.







  1. Hold down and click the Red, Blue and Yellow squares.
    Holding down the key enables you to select multiple objects.


  2. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Group button, and then click Group.
    The three objects are grouped together as a single object.




  3. Click the Group button again and click Ungroup.
    The object is ungrouped to become three separate squares again.



How To Arrange Objects Into Layers


SUMMARY








  1. Click the object to select it.

  2. Click the Format button.

  3. In the Arrange group click the Bring to Front button, and then click one of the following:

    Bring to Front brings an object in front of all other objects.

    Bring Forward brings an object one layer forward.

    or




  1. Click the Send to Back button, and then click one of the following:

    Send to Back
    sends an object to the back of all other objects.

    Send Backward sends an object one layer backward.




  1. Click the red square to select it.
    We want to bring the Red square one layer up so that it appears in front of the blue square.


  2. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Bring to Front button, and then click Bring Forward.
    The red square is brought one layer forward so that it appears in front of the blue square.


  3. Click the blue square to select it.
    Now, we want to layer the blue square in front of both red and yellow squares.


  4. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Bring to Front button, and then click Bring to Front.
    The blue square is brought in front of all the other objects.








  1. Select the Blue square. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Send to Back button, and then click Send Backward.
    The blue square is sent one layer backward so that it appears behind the yellow square.


  2. Click the yellow square to select it.
    We want to send the yellow square to the back so that it appears behind both the blue and red squares.


  3. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Send to Back button, and then click Send to Back.
    The selected yellow square is sent to the back so that it appears behind both the blue and red squares.

Align Objects


SUMMARY








  1. Select the objects that you want to align.

  2. Click the Forat button.

  3. In the Arrange group, click the Align button, and then click one of the following:


Align Left aligns objects to their left.

Align Center aligns objects to their center.

Align Right aligns objects to their right.

Align Top aligns objects to their top edges.

Align Middle aligns objects to their middles.

Align Bottom aligns objects to their bottom edges.

Distribute Horizontally distributes objects equal distances from one another horizontally.

Distribute Vertically distributes objects equal distances from one another vertically.




  1. Arrange the three squares in the following position.
    Make sure they are not aligned. You are going to align the objects horizontally to the top.


  2. Hold down the key and click the squares.
    If you want to select multiple objects, hold down and click the objects you want to select. The three squares are selected with resize handles around them.

  3. Click the Format button. In the Arrange group, click the Align button, and then click Align Top.
    The selected objects are aligned to the top of the uppermost object, as shown below.


  4. Click the Align button again, and then click Distribute Horizontally.
    PowerPoint evenly distributes the selected three squares horizontally.
