Notes/comments:

1. The birth date of Julia is in question. Pat Morrow, Windham Town Historian, found an age of 34 at date of death. The DAR records give her age as 51, and the NEHGR of 1938 gives her age as 54. The 1860 census says she was 40 in 1860. In light of some of the census records, I suspect that the NEHGR date is closest to the actual age.

2. A check of the 1870 census for Adrian (town and city), Lenawee County, Michigan did not reveal a "Julia White" living there in 1870.

56 "Old Vanderburgh Document." (This document was given to the New York State Archives by Howard A. Thomas of Long Island City, NY who pioneered Vanderburgh research in the 1940s and 1950s. The document contains, in part, the births and deaths of Lewis Vanderburgh's family. Other sources confirm many of the dates in the document, making it very reliable. The document was written not earlier than 1856, the date of the latest entry. The document was probably written by Hulda Rachel (Vanderburgh) Day, 1853-1927, of Glidden, IA. Hulda was a great grandaughter of Henry Vanderburgh. Hulda's grandaughter, Zelma B. (Ramey) Steigerwalt, 1907-1982, provided the document to Howard A. Thomas in the early 1950s.)

61 A search for Henry Vanderburgh's death certificate at the New York State Department of Public Health did not reveal a death certificate for him between the years 1880 and 1900. A search of the 1880 NY Census Soundex for Vanderburgh and Vandenburgh was made to try and locate Henry. A review of those who had the head of household listed as Adalaide, Henry, and William was made. Maybe he died in NYC.

82 Newspaper - "Poughkeepsie Journal," 27 Nov 1847. Martin Vanderburgh to Caroline Lee on the previous Thursday. The marriage for both of the Poughkeepsie residents was performed by Rev. L. F. Waldo.

83 "Records of St. James Episcopal Church, Hyde Park, NY," located at Adriance Library, Poughkeepsie, NY. Page 316, baptisms: Margaret Jane Myers, born 9 Oct 1848, bapt. 1 Jul 1849, parents - Martin S.[sic, probably "L."] and Caroline Vanderburgh, sponsors - parents with Mrs. Ann Vanderburgh

84 Martin Vanderburgh's marriage to Caroline Lee is not without some questions. Martin's Civil War pension record emphatically states that he was married only once, and that was to Letitia Reynolds. However, evidence strongly supports a marriage to Carolyn Lee. Until more data either confirms or denies the first marriage, I believe that enough evidence exists to support it.
