GREEN, Lizzie [Puryear] 05 Feb 1880 22 Jun 1884
(d/o James W. and A. A. Puryear Green)

Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen __ Jun 1884

One of the saddest deaths ever recorded in the county was that of Miss Lizzie Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Green, near Vale Mills, Friday evening, last. The deceased was 15 years old at the time of her death—just approaching the threshhold of a beautiful and prominsing young womanhood. An invalid for two years, she bore her ills with that fortitude and resignation that comes of a true and trustful Christian character. Loving parents and fond friends did everything possible for her comfort in her last illness, but human skill could not stay the hand of Death, and she passed through the portals of a peaceful paradise. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Moriah, at which place the funeral services were held by Rev. T. E. Hudson last Saturday, a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives being present to testify their love for the deceased. The Citizen extends its sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

GREEN, M. E. [Braly] 06 Jul 1853 17 Feb 1897
(w/o Jerome B. Green)

(d/o James Dennison and Mary C. Bodenhamer Braly)

Obituary: The Pulaski Citizen 18 Feb 1897

Mrs. J. B. Green died very suddenly yesterday morning about 10 o’clock of heart failure. Her general health seemed as good as usual. She had been visiting at a neighbors’ Tuesday afternoon and was up and ate breakfast Wednesday morning. After breakfast she complained of a pain in the side of the face and neck, and applied a mustard plaster which relieved it. Mr. Green started away from the house to look after the business of the day but was called back, and found Mrs. Green where she had fallen across the bed. She never breathed or spoke afterwards. A message was sent for the doctor, but there was no sign of life when he arrived. The funeral will take place today at one o’clock at Moriah. Services conducted by Rev. T. E. Hudson.

The Pulaski Citizen __ ___ 1897

Mrs. M. E. Green.—Death is no respector of persons. He hands his crape upon every door without regard to rank, sex or age. Again he has been abroad, and summoned from our midst one of our purest and best women. Sister M. E. Green has passed safely through the golden gates into that citywhich hat foundations whose builder and maker is God. For many years she was a great sufferer, but uncomplaininglybore her afflictions, believing all thinds work together for good to them who love the Lord. Her resignation and patience were complete. Suffering was great but grace was supreme. Among her many beautiful traits of character there was one that especially impressed me. It was her broad-minded charity for the opinions, the faults and foibles of others. It was my pleasure to frequently to meet with her in the fullest interchange of confidential thought and I never heard her speak uncharitably of any one. If she had no words of commendation she was silent. She endeavered to trace a pure and good motive in the speeches and actions of all. In nature and disposition she was generous and affectionate; the coldness of calculating selfishness was all foreign to her soul. She carried light and warmth and cheer to all with whom she came in contact, and won for the friendship, confidence and love of all who knew her. She made no noisy protestations of her faith, but her daily walk and conversation attested the belief of her heart. In early life the star of hope was placed in her trusting soul, which has thrown its halo of light along her destined way. It was herjoy in health, her comfort in sorrow, her stay in affliction and her triumph in death. She looked into the future with buoyant hope and perfect faith, and fell to sleep without a shudder on the 17th day of February, 1897, and the writer preached her funeral to one of the largest congregations that ever assembled at old Mt. Moriah. She was born on the 6th day of July 1853; joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1860; married J. B. Green on the 14th day of September, 1876. In taking my leave of her now forever I cannot but feel how sadly, sweetly, beautiful was the picture of her death. She is only gone before; God bless the devoted husband, aged father and many loved ones. T. E. Hudson.
