EU se jezično definira kao dinamična forma, raskrižje puteva i prema njoj se putuje prometnim sredstvima koji imaju različitu brzinu kretanja (brod, autobus, konvoj broodva, vlak, bicikl).

U metaforičkom govoru EU se predstavlja kao kuća, dom, utvrda koja ima svoja vrata, stupove i koja nije dovršena. Članovi obitelji nalaze svoje utočište u kući i mogu biti u različitim odnosima. Evidentno je da se EU u potpunosti definira prema modelu koji je dobro poznat čovjeku i koji izaziva pozitivne konotacije.
