1.5 Material Supply – ‘research, breeding and training’ samples
The standard Material Transfer Agreement (of the ITPGRFA) [sMTA] was used in supplying material for research, breeding and training material from 2009. An attempt was made in 2010 to utilise a 12-month open sMTA agreement (specifically aimed at regular users who collected material directly from the collections with a view to avoid limiting access through administrative burden [and is highlighted below*]). However, this was later abandoned due to the difficulty in obtaining accurate lists of the material collected for reporting purposes. All previous and subsequent samples were handled through the standard sMTA system using the signature option.
