LOS ANGELES February 17, 2016 – Nomadic Pictures (“Fargo,” “Hell On Wheels”) today announced casting of Kelly Overton, Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubbit and Tim Guinee in the upcoming sci-fi action series VAN HELSING, slated to premiere on Syfy this fall. Series production begins in Vancouver, BC on February 22.
The 13-episode, hour-long drama reimagines the timeless Dracula brand with the resurrection of Vanessa Helsing (Overton), a descendent of the Van Helsing lineage of warriors who now must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires in the post-Rising landscape.
Kelly Overton is best known for her time as a series regular on the popular HBO series, “True Blood,” playing Rikki Naylor, the alpha female werewolf. Overton was most recently a series regular on Season 2 of TNT's “Legends” and also recurred on The CW’s “Beauty and the Beast.” She is represented by Innovative Artists.
Season 1 of VAN HELSING will also star:
Jonathan Scarfe (“Hell on Wheels,” “Perception”) as Axel, a career Marine with unwavering devotion and loyalty to both duty and his wards, despite years of isolation and endless vampire attacks. Scarfe is represented by Michael Greene & Associates and More/Medavoy.
Christopher Heyerdahl (“Sanctuary,” “True Blood,” “Hell on Wheels”) as Sam, a survivor of the vampire Rising, who relies on his strength and observational skills to stay alive. Heyerdahl is represented by Michael Greene & Associates.
Paul Johansson (“One Tree Hill,” “Mad Men”) as Dimitri, a vampire turned before the Rising, he is now the patient and calculating leader of the vampires. Johansson is represented by Gilbertson Entertainment and Stone Manners Salners Agency.
David Cubitt (“Medium”, “Ray Donovan”) as John, another survivor of the vampire Rising, whose actions are fueled by anger, prejudice, suspicion and fear. Cubitt is represented by APA and The Characters.
Vincent Gale (“Homeland,” “The Good Wife”) as Flesh, a vampire foot soldier who does battle with Vanessa and conceals a tragic past. Gale is represented by The Characters.
Tim Guinee (“Homeland,” “The Good Wife”) as Ted, a career Marine who leads his fireteam with levelheadedness. Guinee is represented by Principal Entertainment.
VAN HELSING episodes will be helmed by directors including Michael Nankin (“Defiance,” “Hell on Wheels,” “Black Sails”), Jason Priestley (“Saving Hope,” “Haven”), David Frazee (“Orphan Black,” “Ash vs Evil Dead,” “Flashpoint”), Simon Barry (“Continuum”) and Amanda Tapping (“Sanctuary,” “The Magicians,” “Dark Matter”).

VAN HELSING is produced by Nomadic Pictures and serves as the studio. Nomadic Pictures will distribute the series within Canada, Fallout Asylum and Dynamic Television will distribute the series (initial window) in the United States. Dynamic Television is also on board as international distributor. Canada’s Premium Pay TV Network SuperChannel and SuperEcran (Quebec) will air the Series in Canada.
