1106 1927 (20 Dec) Calcutta-Darwin "Red Rose" flight cover (flts & no flap), by Bill Lancaster & Jessie Miller -the 1st woman to fly UK-Australia on this flight, franked India KGV 1d(2), tied by "Park Street Calcutta 20 DEC 27" cds, with special flight label, endorsed & signed by both pilots -also with Australia KGV 1d green tied by "Darwin 21 MR 28" arrival cds. An eventful flight that took over 4 months. Bert Hinkler, flying solo, left England over 2 months later & reached Australia over a month before them! Only 37 flown, but with an extract from the Indian Airmail Society from 1932 saying 34 of these lost in Australia? -so maybe only 3 survived. AAMC 111(var).
