former Soviet airfields, which had belonged to the former Soviet 34-th air army and the USSR's air-defense force -- Marneuli, Vaziani, Senaki (Mikha Tskhakaya) and Gudauta. Current status of these: of all of them only Gudauta (which has Bombora Airfield) is closed. This was Russian’s base and they said they closed it in 1999.

New Military bases:
Gori military base – started construction in August 2006 (ready in summer 2007): built to the north of the M27 highway from Tbilisi to Gori, less than 20 miles from Tskhinvali; 66 hectares in size; able to accommodate up to 3,200 soldiers (doesn’t seem to have airfield)
Senaki military base – opened in May 2006; close to Abkhazian border; able to accommodate 3,500 soldiers
