1 Even though the concept of translation universals has been accepted by a large number of scholars, opinions denying the existence of features universal to translations have also been voiced, e.g. House, 2008.

2 The shortcomings of the so-called explicitation hypothesis and first definitions of explicitation in general can be found in Kamenická (2007a: 7-20), they are of little importance to the present thesis, though, and that is why this issue is not addressed in greater detail.
