Information for Students
What will I learn?
You will learn about different kinds of gardens and parks and which plants grow in them. You will also learn about some useful garden tools and other gardening equipment.
What will I do?

take part in group meetings to decide what has to be done

visit parks, gardens, garden centres and nurseries to find out about different gardens, plants and garden tools

use a computer, books and gardening magazines to find important information

carry out an investigation to find out what seeds need to make them grow

plan a garden (and make plants grow in it)

take part in quizzes about gardening

write an article about gardening for S6 News.
How will I know how I am getting on?
I will tell you and help you. If you work really hard you will earn a certificate, for your Progress File. The certificate may come from the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

The activities undertaken by the students are grouped to match the three outcomes of the unit D553 08 MER: Planning an Environmental Area (Access 2).
Section 1 identifying a suitable environmental area contains three activities relating to Outcome 1
Section 2 identifying suitable plants, and tools for the herb garden contains two activities relating to Outcome 2
Section 3 planning the main features of the herb garden contains two activities relating to Outcome 3
Examples of activities at the level of Access 1 are identified in each section.
