H.C.R. 304

House concurrent resolution honoring the cinematic accomplishments of Luis Guzman of Sutton

Offered by: Representatives Kitzmiller of Montpelier, Brooks of Montpelier, Crawford of Burke, Hudson of Lyndon, Livingston of Manchester and Miller of Shaftsbury

Whereas, Luis Guzman’s career on the silver and television screens has become increasingly noteworthy during the past decade, and

Whereas, a native of New York City, he graduated from the City College of the City of New York, and

Whereas, Luis Guzman did not pursue his acting aspirations immediately upon graduation, but instead he accepted the real-life role of a youth counselor at the Henry Street Settlement House in New York, and

Whereas, while helping troubled youngsters cope with their problem-filled lives, he began to perform in both street theater productions and independent films, and

Whereas, these initial forays into the world of drama led in 1984 to guest appearances on network television programs, including Miami Vice, Hunter, and Law & Order, and

Whereas, more recently, Luis Guzman performed in many television series, including his own program, “Luis,” which was featured on the Fox Television Network, and

Whereas, his television appearances have led to many roles in motion pictures, including working with directors Sidney Lumet, Ridley Scott, Steven Soderbergh, and Paul Thomas Anderson, and

Whereas, as a character actor, Luis Guzman’s cinematic repertoire has ranged from action filled crime dramas to romantic comedies, and

Whereas, among the diverse films in which he has been featured are The Count of Monte Cristo, Anger Management with Jack Nicholson, and Dumb and Dumber, and

Whereas, seeking a respite from the hectic life of film and television appearances, Luis Guzman purchased a farm in Sutton where he now resides when not filming a movie or television program, and

Whereas, he has come to appreciate the serenity of rural Vermont, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly recognizes the cinematic accomplishments of Luis Guzman and wishes him well in his future farming and acting careers, and be it further



Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Luis Guzman in Sutton and to the Vermont Film Commission.
