The Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. annually grants scholarships to African-American high school seniors who will enroll in an institution of higher education. All students must be in a Mecklenburg County public or private high school. There are three scholarship categories this year, and students may apply for as many of the categories as they qualify for:
1) Dorothy Counts Scoggins/E. Virginia Shadd “Breaking Barriers” Scholarship (non-renewable)
Must be a graduating African-American female senior in a Mecklenburg County public or private high school. Must have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, demonstrate financial need, and plan to attend a four (4) year institution of higher education in the U.S. during the upcoming academic year.
2) Frances Selena Johnson “Making Strides” Scholarship (non-renewable)
Must be a graduating African-American male or female senior in a Mecklenburg County public or private high school. Must have unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and have shown significant improvement in his/her academics over a two year period. Must plan to attend a two or four year institution of higher education in the U.S. during the upcoming academic year.
3) Daisy Spears Stroud “Academic Achievement” Scholarship (non-renewable)
Must be a graduating African-American female senior in a Mecklenburg County public or private high school. Must have a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and plan to attend a four year institution of higher education in the U.S. during the upcoming academic year.
