Mrs. Lula Chapman, age 50, passed awayat her home near Pisgah, Sunday night, Nov. 17, after an illness extending over about two years. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral and burial at Moriah Monday afternoon, Rev. S. R. Bratcher, officiating. Mrs. Chapman is survived by six sons and four daughters, all of whom were with her at the last. Also two sisters and one brother, survive.

Nell Pauline Chapman died yesterday in Pulaski. She was 76 years old. Visitation will be held today from 5-8pm at Bennett-May - Giles County Funeral Home. Services will be held tomorrow at 5pm in the Bennett-May - Giles County Funeral Home chapel with Reverend BarryFralix officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Survivors include four sons, Ricky Chapman and wife Debbie, Rocky Chapman and wife Marie, Johnny Chapman Jr.

all of Pulaski and Jackie Chapman and wife Andrea of Lewisburg. She is survived by a daughter, Christine “Sissy” Crabtree and husband Butch of Pulaski. A seventeen-year-old member of the 1961 graduating class of Giles County High School was fatally injured Monday afternoon, May 29, when he was dragged about half-a-mile by a mule which he had been working on a farm near the Pisgah community. William Hugh Chapman, son ofMr. and Mrs. Raymond Chapman of Blooming Grove, was the victim of the unusual accident which occurred about 3 p.m. as he was returning the mule from the Lancaster Reese farm a mile east of Pisgah to the home of Cecil Holland on an adjoining farm. Holland’s son, Wayne, was in his yard when he saw young Chapman being dragged by the running mule. He said the youth’s foot was caught in a trace chain, indicating that he had tried to mount the animal. Chapman was alone at the time and the exact cause of the tragedy could not be determined. He died within a few minutes of the time the mule dragged him into the Holland yard, witnesses said. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending arrival of a brother, Roy, who is serving with the U. S. Navy. The body is at Bennett-May Funeral Home where rites will be conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Hickman. Surviving in addition to the parents and the brother, are two sisters, Misses Betty and Joyce Chapman of Blooming Grove.

Funeral services for Joseph Fletcher Cheatham, 89, retired Giles County farmer and resident of Pulaski were held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in the chapel of Bennett-May Funeral Home with the rites conducted by the Rev. Billy E. Craighead, pastor of First Methodist Church. Burial took place in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Mr. Cheatham, who had been in failing health for several years, died Thursday, February 4, in Umble Nursing Home in Lewisburg. Born January 19, 1876, in Giles County, he was the son of the late Fletcher Cheatham and Louisa Verelda Miller Cheatham. He was a member of the United Methodist Church Mr. Cheatham is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Hamlett Cheatham; and two sisters, Mrs. Sam O. Dunlap, Pulaski and Mrs. J. A. Hardin, Franklin. Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Turner Childress, 87, who died early Tuesday morning at her home in the Nineteenth Civil District, following a brief illness, were held at noon Wednesday at the residence, conducted by the Rev D. Hume McKinley Childress, 76, Little Dry Creek Road, died when his one-story frame house burned Saturday night. Mr. Childress body was burned beyond recognition. The death angel visited our community again Feb. 20 and claimed for its victim William Childress. He had been down for several weeks with that dreadful disease, T. B. All was done by loving hands to prolong his life. Mr. Childress said he was just waiting on the Lord to call him home. It was sad to give him up. He will be missed especially by his loving wife, who stayed by his bedside so long waiting on him but she knows that he’s resting in the arms of Jesus now, where he has no pains to bear. His funeral was at his home, byRev. Smith and burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, three girls and seven boys, four grown children and a host of friends.

Funeral services for John Rufus Choate, 87, well known farmer, who died at 8 o'clock Tuesday night, July27, at his home in the Bodenham community, after several months declining health, will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at Bennett-May Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. E. D. Troutt, pastor of the Trinity Charge. Burial will take place at Moriah Cemetery. Son of the late Thomas J. Choate and Mary Eliza Morgan Choate, he was born and reared in Giles County. In early life he was a merchant in Pulaski, but the greater part of his life he operated a farm in the Bodenham community. He wife, the former Maggie McMasters, died in 1932. Mr. Choate is survived by two sons, Albert Choate, Dothan, Ala., and Roy Choate, Pulaski. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Mrs. Rufus Choate died at a Nashville Hospital Mondayevening where she had been for several months. The remains were brought to Pulaski Monday night and the body was buried at Moriah, Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Choate was a good woman, and is survived by her husband and two sons; also a brother, L. D. McMasters, to whom much sympathy is extended.

Mr. Roy D. Choate, 84, of 109 South Third Street, Pulaski, died Saturday, January 21, 1984, at Giles County Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, January 23 at 1:30 p. m. in the Bennett-May Chapel with the Reverends Jacob Gardner and Ray McDonald officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. A native of Lawrence County, Mr. Choate was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and was retired as Bridge Foreman for the Giles County Highway Department. He was the son of the late John Rufus and Maggie McMasters Choate. He was married to Mrs. Myrtle Houston Choate of Pulaski, she survives. he had one brother, Albert E. Choate of Pulaski, who also survive. Bennett May was in charge of arrangements.

Lt. Colonel Mitchell S. Ciborowski, 95, of Giles County died May 22, 2011. Born Aug. 12, 1915, he was the oldest of six children born to Polish immigrants. Growing up in the industrial city of New Bedford, Mass., he learned to shoulder responsibility at an early age. He worked in the textile mills as a teenager and joined the Army as a young man. He fought in WWII and the Korean War with valor and distinction and was awarded two bronze stars and a Purple Heart. When he returned from the war, he was stationed at Redstone Arsenal, where he met his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Corinne Burns. They began the nomadic adventures of an Army family, bringing up four children and moving 12 times before settling in Bel Air, Md., for 50 years. Better known as “Cib,” the Lieutenant Colonel had a wonderful sense of humor and twinkling blue eyes that laughed through many stressful times. He valued education having struggled to put himself through college while working and raising a family. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree from Southern Massachusetts Institute of Technology (now University of Massachusetts) in his early40s. He used his education and experience to design everything from rocket fuel for the military to playground swings for his children. Cib was known for his strength of character. He always knew what was right and never hesitated to act on his convictions. His life was defined by his strong faith and his love of family. He is preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Susan. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, May27, at Bennett-May-Giles CountyFuneral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral service, beginning at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Moriah Cemetery Fund. Frances Eugenia Cook was born in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 8, 1922, died Nov.. 8, 1934 in the Protestant Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. She moved to Giles County with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Cook, at the age of four years. Though the short period of her life was but 12 years, she was an exceptional child. She possessed those high virtues that would be well for many adults to possess. She was an obedient child. She loved her parents, and home. Never once did she question their counsel, but her delight was to obey their wishes. She was trustworthy. She had reached that place in life, where her mother could and did trust her with any of the home duties. She had a high sense of appreciation. She was grateful for the smallest kindness, and for all friends. Eugenia's finest qualitywas to think high andpure thoughts. Thinking of, and seeing the best and purest in every thing made her innocent life attractive. In her school life, she made good grades and was loved by her teachers and classmates. In her six weeks suffering, everything in human power was done to restore her to health. Funeral services were conducted in the Christian Church in Pulaski on Saturdayat 10a.m. by Rev. Elmer Smith, assisted byRev. C. S. Wilson. Her remains were interred in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. She is survived by her father, mother, one sister, two brothers and four half-brothers. Behind every cloud there is a radiant light so beyondthis cloud of sorrow there is a radiant life, unscarred by sin, where we will meet again in the home of the immortals. A Friend.
