Sharp fine detail to the eagle, Swastika, crossed stick grenade and bayonet. Unfortunately this example is missing it's small metal square backing plate that sits behind the Swastika and crossed grenade and bayonet. Gives the badge a 'cut out' appearance as seen on some other awards such as wound badges etc. Still a nice example for display. Well marked to the rear with 'FEC WE PEEKHAUS, BERLIN' to the left hand side of the 'C' clasp & AUSF, AGMuK, Gablonz to the right hand side of the retaining pin. Typical 'Coke bottle' style retaining pin. A similar badge is featured on pages 200/201 of 'German Combat badges of the Third Reich' by Tucker/Previtera. The close combat clasp was a later decoration for front line soldiers that engaged in 'hand to hand' combat. This bronze clasp (Grade 1) was awarded for 15 days and up to 30 days of close combat fighting. Grade II- $500

2680 GERM WW2 RARE "OPFERRING" GILT METAL AND ENAMEL BADGE. "ABZEICHEN DES OPFERRINGS FREIHEITSBUND DER NSDAP OPFERRING" or Donation Collection League was the NSDAP's central collections agency, accumulating donations from various other Nazi organisations and then adding them to the coffers to be redistributed. This badge was worn by those members authorised to collect donations and had to be returned to the organisation when someone left the league or died. It is the ONLY known badge or decoration produced by the German government of the era that had the notation "NSDAP" in raised lettering to the reverse. Approximately 23mm in diameter, the badge is constructed of a copper base metal with a gilt finish and white, black and red enamel. Features a large black enamel swastika sitting above a red enamel "V" with the wording "Opferring" all on a white enamel background. Marked to the reverse "GAULEITUNG BADEN", "NSDAP" and "GES. It was created to support Germans living in the "east" (Russia). Obviously not something that you would have wanted to have in your possession around late 1944 onwards! It is quite unlikely that we will get another badge any time soon. Grade II-. $155
