| REGISTERED DISABILITY SAVINGS PLAN FOR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING PEOPLE
About RDSP: The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) plan is a good option for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals who plan to save money to make their long-term financial future more comfortable. The federal government provides financial support through the Canada Disability Savings Grant (CDSG) and Canada Disability Savings Bond (CDSB) programs. The RDSP will benefit any deaf and hard of hearing individual who has the disability tax credit certificate, is less than 60 years of age, and is a Canadian resident. About CDSG: Qualified individuals may put money into an RDSP account to attract the CDSG of up to $3,500 each year until December 31st the year in which they turn 49 or up to the maximum lifetime CDSG available in the amount of $70,000. Qualified individuals with any kind of income can apply for the RDSP. Even families or single individuals with a net family income over $85,414 can earn up to $1000 in CDSG. About CDSB: This program is for lower-income families and singles individuals who have less than $42,707 in net family income. These lower-income families/singles can apply for CDSB without putting any money into the RDSP account and qualify for a bond up to $1,000 each year until 49 years of age subject to the maximum lifetime CDSB available amount of $20,000. Under the Canada Disability Savings Bond program, individuals are not required to make a contribution or deposit including those receiving support programs such as the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP). The Ontario government has exempt assets inside an RDSP from affecting an individual’s ODSP support payments meaning Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals have a great option for saving for their long-term financial future.
