UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 06/24/16 13 REG. SESS. 13 RS BR 1554 A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Lori Acton. WHEREAS, Lori Acton, Colorado native and Kentucky treasure, was born August 14, 1957, the daughter of Carol Holzworth and the late Bernard Holzworth; and WHEREAS, Lori Acton greatly valued education, excelling through school and furthering her education in undergraduate studies at the University of Northern Colorado and Eastern Kentucky University, and earning her Masters of Library Science from Vanderbilt University; and WHEREAS, Lori Acton used her commitment to educational enrichment to propel an exemplary 28-year career as executive director of the Laurel County Public Library, using visionary leadership to spearhead growth that led to the fruition of a new library facility in 2004; and WHEREAS, Lori Acton believed in the necessity of public outreach and service, leading in roles such as founding member of the Kentucky Public Library Association's Legislative Committee, the first female member and past president of the London Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, member of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Laurel County Chamber of Commerce, and a host of others; and WHEREAS, Lori Acton was deeply devoted to her family, the loving wife and companion of Larry Acton; the adoring mother of Wayne, Lance, Sarah, and Peter; and the admired sister of Jennifer Hays, Brenda Holzworth, and Brian (Amy) Holzworth; and WHEREAS, on January 28, 2013, Lori Acton departed this earthly existence after a lifetime of dedicated service, leaving her family and countless others in solemn mourning; and WHEREAS, Lori Acton will be remembered for her unmatched leadership, passionate dedication to literacy and learning, love for community, and an infectious laugh that could brighten any day; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, express their most profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Lori Acton, and extend their heartfelt sympathy to her family, friends, and community. Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Lori Acton. Section 3.
