K10 PLASTERBOARD DRY LININGS/ PARTITIONS/ CEILINGS
To be read with Preliminaries/ General conditions.

TYPES OF DRY LINING
K10/110 METAL STUD PARTITION SYSTEM: (GYPROC SYSTEM REF A206067)

  • Partition type: Gypwall’ Metal studs (48mm), 2 x board finish to each face generally,

1x board finish to corridor face to link.

  • Partition height: to suit locations up to max 3400mm.

  • Thickness; 100mm ‘

63mm to link corridor.

- Head condition: to suit locations and surrounding structure



  • Head deflection allowance: to be confirmed by SE to suit partition location and

surrounding structure, min 25mm.

- Structural performance:

- Strength grade to BS 5234-2: Severe.

Max partition Ht; 3.40m

- Fire resistance of complete partition assembly to BS 476-20 and -22:


  • Integrity/ insulation: 90 minutes.

30 minutes min to Corridor Link

- Metal framing: As recommended for the purpose by the board manufacturer,

Framing sections; to suit overall height of wall lining


  • Linings: 2x12.5mm Fireline board, as clause K10/404, fixed to each face linings

amended to suit locations and environmental conditions.

  • 1x15mm Duraline board, as clause K10/401, fixed to one face,

to Corridor link.

  • Finishing: Plaster skim, as clause 680

- Primer/ sealer: Gyproc Drywall sealer prior to decoration.

- Accessories: to suit locations

- Other requirements: fire stop around all services penetrations

K10/115 METAL STUD PARTITION SYSTEM: (GYPROC SYSTEM REF A233008/028)


  • Partition type: ‘Gypwall’ Metal studs (70mm), inc’ board finish to each face,

  • Partition height: to suit locations UP TO MAX 5000mm.

  • Thickness; 208mm + skim finishes

- Head condition: to suit locations and surrounding structure

  • Head deflection allowance: to be confirmed by SE to suit partition location and

surrounding structure min 25mm.

- Structural performance:

- Strength grade to BS 5234-2: Severe.

Max partition Ht; 5.0m

- Fire resistance of complete partition assembly to BS 476-20 and -22:

- Integrity/ insulation: 90 minutes.

- Metal framing: As recommended for the purpose by the board manufacturer,

140 WALL LINING SYSTEM –DriLyner Basic System

- Manufacturer: Gyproc



  • Product reference: ‘DriLyner Basic system with

  • 15mm Duraline plasterboard, as clause K10/401.

- Background wall: Existing brick/blockwork and concrete dependant on location.

Thickness; 25mm + skim finish

Fixing details; Gyproc Dri-Wall Adhesive applied in accordance with BS8212 and

BS 8000: Part8. To give min 20% area of contact between board and background.

- Finishing: Durafinish skim, as clause 680.

Primer/ sealer: Gyproc Drywall sealer prior to decoration.



  • Other requirements: fire stop around all services penetrations, provide fire barriers as clause K10/530.



K10/155 WALL LINING SYSTEM (METAL STUDS)

- Manufacturer: Gyproc.

- Product reference: GypLyner IWL system.


  • Studs: 48mm studs for heights up to 2.7m

  • 92mm studs for heights up to 5.7m.

  • Type: 48 I 50 studs

  • 92 I 90 studs.

- Centres: 600mm.

- Cavity width: 20mm.



  • Unbraced height (maximum): 48mm studs for heights up to 2.7m

92mm studs for heights up to 5.7m..

- Head condition: to suit locations and surrounding structure.



  • Head deflection allowance: to be confirmed by SE to suit partition location and

surrounding structure min 25mm..

- Cavity insulation: 50mm Isowool APR 1200 to cavity.



  • Vapour control layer: To external wall situations Tyvek or similar, all

joints to be sealed with adhesive tape.

- Linings: 2 x layers 12.5mm Gyproc Fireline board as clause K10/404.



Profilex Access panels 550mm x 550mm.

- Finishing: Plaster skim, as clause 680.

- Primer/ sealer: Gyproc Drywall sealer prior to decoration.

- Accessories: to suite locations.

K10/215 CEILING LINNING ON TIMBER

- Drawing references:7769-17, 7769-18 and 7769-20.

- Background: New and Existing Timber roof joists/SW Framing.

- Linings: 2x 12.5mm Fireline board, as clause K10/404.

- Finishing: Plaster skim, as clause 680.

- Primer/ sealer: Gyproc Drywall sealer prior to decoration.

- Other requirements: fire stop around all services penetrations.


K10/216 CEILING LINNING ON TIMBER

- Drawing references:7769-31, 7769-21.

- Background: New Timber roof joists/SW Framing and Plywood underdrawing.

- Linings: 12.5mm Fireline board, as clause K10/404.

- Finishing: Plaster skim, as clause 680.

- Primer/ sealer: Gyproc Drywall sealer prior to decoration.

- Other requirements: fire stop around all services penetrations.

K10/237 SUSPENDED CEILING SYSTEM (GYPROC MF SYSTEM)

- Manufacturer: British Gypsum.

Fire resistance; Min 1HR FR

- Structural soffits: Existing trapezoidal metal roof deck and steel lattice beams.

- Suspension system:

- Product reference: Gyproc Casoline MF system to include;

- Hangers, primary support channels, ceiling sections and perimeter channels to suit.

- Linings: 2 layers 12.5mm Fireline board, as clause K10/404 – all joints staggered.


  • Access units: For access to M and E services to be 1 hour fire rated Blazedor/PF

600 x 600 as supplied by M & M Access Ltd, (tel 01604 644 944)

- Finishing: Skim finish as clause K10/680.

Accessories; fire stop around all services penetrations.

Provide ‘Envirograf’ Acoustic/Intumescent downlighter covers and

cages to all light fittings.
K10/240 BULKHEADS TO SUSPENDED CEILING SYSTEMS

- Drawing references: 7769/20, 7769/21

- Manufacturer: British Gypsum.

- Structural soffits: various existing concrete and steel downstands.

- Suspension system:

- Product reference: Gyproc Casoline MF system to include;

- Hangers, primary support channels, ceiling sections and perimeter channels to suit.

- Linings: Gyproc 12.5mm Soundbloc boards as clause K10/402, fixed to suspension system.

- Finishing: Skim finish as clause K10/680.

- Primer/ sealer: Gyproc Drywall sealer prior to decoration.



GENERAL/ PREPARATION
K10/325 PREPARATION OF SOLID BACKGROUNDS TO RECEIVE WALL LININGS

- General: Suitable to receive lining system. Redundant fixtures and services removed. Cutting, chasing and making good completed.

- Holes, gaps, service penetrations, perimeter junctions and around openings: Seal completely.

- Adhesive fixings: Prepare to achieve effective bonding.

- Contaminants: Remove loose material, dirt, grease, oil, paper, etc.

- Absorption: Control by dampening, priming or using bonding agents as necessary.


K10/335 ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS

- Framing: Accurately position and securely fix to fully support:

- Partition heads: Running parallel with, but offset from main structural supports.


  • Fixtures, fittings and service outlets: To suit fixings. Mark framing positions clearly

  • and accurately on linings.

- Board edges and lining perimeters: As recommended by board manufacturer to suit type and performance of board.
K10/375 NEW WET LAID BASES

- Dpcs: Install under partitions/ freestanding wall linings, cut to full width of partition/ lining.


COMPONENTS
K10/401 GYPSUM DURALINE PLASTERBOARD

- Exposed surface and edge profiles: Suitable to receive specified finish.
K10/402 GYPSUM PLASTERBOARD (IMPROVED SOUND INSULATION)

- Type: To BS 1230-1, type 1, Gyproc ‘Soundbloc’, or similar, 12.5mm.

- Core density (minimum): 820 kg/m³.

- Exposed surface and edge profiles: Suitable to receive specified finish.


K10/404 GYPSUM PLASTERBOARD (IMPROVED FIRE PROTECTION)

- Type: To BS 1230-1, type 5, Gyproc ‘Fireline’ or similar, 12.5mm.

- Core density (minimum): 800 kg/m³.

- Core: Including fibres for improved cohesion.

- Exposed surface and edge profiles: Suitable to receive specified finish.
K10/425 ACOUSTIC INSULATION

- Type: Isowool Acoustic Partition roll (1200).

- Thickness: 50 - 100mm, to suit locations.
K10/430 ACCESS UNITS - WALLS

- Manufacturer and reference; Gyproc ‘Profilex FR1 Standard Panels.

Flush metal faced, polyester powder coated finish to match wall finish.

Size; 550 * 550mm.


440 ACCESS UNITS - CEILINGS

  • Manufacturer and reference; For access to M and E services to be 1 hour fire rated Blazedor/PF 600 x 600 as supplied by M & M Access Ltd,

  • (tel 01604 644 944).


INSTALLATION
K10/435 DRY LININGS GENERALLY

- General: Use fixing, jointing and finishing materials, components and installation methods recommended by board manufacturer.

- Cutting plasterboards: Neatly and accurately without damaging core or tearing paper facing.


  • Cut edges: Minimize and position at internal angles wherever possible. Mask with

bound edges of adjacent boards at external corners.

- Fixings plasterboards: Securely and firmly to suitably prepared and accurately levelled backgrounds.

- Finishing: Neatly to give flush, smooth, flat surfaces free from bowing and abrupt changes of level.
K10/445 CEILINGS

- Sequence: Fix boards to ceilings before dry lined walls and partitions.

- Orientation of boards: Fix with bound edges at right angles to supports and with ends staggered in adjacent rows.

- Two layer boarding: Stagger joints between layers.

K10/455 METAL FRAMING FOR PARTITIONS

- Setting out: Accurately aligned and plumb.

- Stud positions: Equal centres to suit specified linings, maintaining sequence across openings.

- Additional studs: To support vertical edges of boards.

- Fixing centres at perimeters (maximum): 600 mm.

- Openings: Form accurately, including:

- Doorsets: Sleeved/ boxed metal studs and/ or suitable timber framing to achieve strength grade requirements for framing assembly and adequately support weight of door.

- Services penetrations: Allow for associated fire stopping.


K10/465 STAGGERED STUD PARTITIONS

- Fixing horizontal frame members (noggins, bearers, etc.) and boards: Between alternate studs and not touching adjacent offset studs.


K10/505 INSTALLING ACOUSTIC INSULATION

- Fitting: Accurately and firmly with closely butted joints and no gaps.

- Widths: Lay insulation in the widest practical widths to suit grid member spacings.

- Services: Do not cover electrical cables that are not sized accordingly.

- Ceilings: Cut insulation carefully around electrical fittings, etc. Do not lay over luminaires.

- Fixing:

- Partitions/ wall linings: Fasten insulation at head of frame to prevent displacement, unless insulation is self supporting and friction fitted between studs.

- Ceilings (vertical/ sloping areas): Fasten insulation to prevent displacement.


K10/510 SEALING GAPS AND AIR PATHS

- Application of sealant to dry lining systems: Continuous beads leaving no gaps or air paths.

- Acoustic sealant: Apply to perimeter abutments with walls, floors, ceilings and around openings.

- Gaps greater than 6 mm wide: After application of sealant, complete sealing with jointing compound.

- Air pressure sealant: Apply to board to board and board to metal frame junctions in pressurised shafts, ducts, etc.
K10/530 CAVITY FIRE BARRIERS WITHIN PARTITIONS/ WALL LININGS

- Metal framed systems:

- Material: Mineral wool.


  • Installation: Form accurately and fix securely with no gaps to provide a complete

  • barrier to smoke and flame.

- Adhesive fixed wall lining systems:

- Material: Adhesive compound.



  • Installation: Form in a continuous line with no gaps to provide a complete barrier to

smoke and flame.
545 K10/ CAVITY FIRE BARRIERS WITHIN SUSPENDED CEILINGS.

  • Type : Rockwool Fire Barrier

  • Fire resistance: 60/60

  • Ceiling void subdivision: Fire barriers to be not more than 20m apart in any direction.

  • Fixing at perimeters and joints: Secure, stable and continuous with no gaps, to

provide a complete barrier to smoke and flame.

  • Service penetrations: Cut and pack to maintain barrier integrity. Sleeve flexible

materials. Adequately support services passing through

barrier.

K10/555 FIRE STOPPING AT PERIMETERS OF DRY LINING SYSTEMS

- Material: Tightly packed mineral wool or intumescent mastic/ sealant.

- Application: To perimeter abutments to provide a complete barrier to smoke and flame.
K10/560 JOINTS BETWEEN BOARDS

- Tapered edged plasterboards:

- Bound edges: Lightly butted.

- Cut/ unbound edges: 3 mm gap.

- Square edged plasterboards: 3 mm gap.

- Square edged fibre reinforced gypsum boards: 5 mm gap.


K10/565 VERTICAL JOINTS

- Centre joints on studs.

- Partitions: Stagger joints on opposite sides of studs.

- Two layer boarding: Stagger joints between layers.


K10/570 HORIZONTAL JOINTS

- Surfaces exposed to view: Horizontal joints not permitted.

- Exception: Where height of partition/ lining exceeds maximum available length of board. Agree positions of joints.

- Two layer boarding: Stagger joints between layers by at least 600 mm.

- Provide support to edges of boards with additional framing.

- Two layer boarding: Support edges of outer layer.


K10/590 FIXING PLASTERBOARD TO METAL FRAMING/ FURRINGS

- Fixing to framing/ furrings: Securely and firmly working from the centre of each board at the following centres (maximum):

- Partitions/ wall linings: 300 mm. Reduce to 200 mm at external angles.

- Ceilings: 230 mm. Reduce to 150 mm at board ends and at lining perimeters.

- Position of screws from edges of boards (minimum): 10 mm.

- Screw heads: Set in a depression. Do not break paper or gypsum core.


K10/595 DEFLECTION HEADS

- Fixing boards: Do not fix to head channels.


K10/610 FIXING PLASTERBOARD TO TIMBER

- Fixing to timber: Securely and firmly working from the centre of each board at the following centres (maximum):

- Nail fixing: 150 mm.


  • Screw fixing to partitions/ wall linings: 300 mm. Reduce to 200 mm at external

angles.

- Screw fixing to ceilings: 230 mm.

- Position of nails/ screws from edges of boards (minimum):

- Bound edges: 10 mm.

- Cut/ unbound edges: 13 mm.


  • Position of nails/ screws from edges of timber supports (minimum): 6 mm.

K10/620 FIXING PLASTERBOARD WITH ADHESIVE DABS

- Setting out boards: Accurately aligned and plumb.

- Fixing to substrates: Securely using adhesive dabs.

- Adhesive dab spacings for each board:

- Horizontally: One row along top edge and one continuous dab along bottom edge.

- Vertically: One row along each edge and thereafter at intermediate spacings to suit size of board:

- Adhesive dab dimensions (width x length): At least 50–75 mm x 250 mm.

FINISHING
K10/650 LEVEL OF DRY LINING ACROSS JOINTS

- Sudden irregularities: Not permitted.

- Joint deviations: Measure from faces of adjacent boards using methods and straightedges (450 mm long with feet/ pads) to BS 8212, clause 3.3.5.

- Tapered edge joints:

Permissible deviation (maximum) across joints when measured with feet resting on boards: 3 mm.

- External angles:

Permissible deviation (maximum) for both faces: 4 mm.

- Internal angles:

Permissible deviation (maximum) for both faces: 5 mm.
K10/670 SEAMLESS JOINTING TO PLASTERBOARDS

- Cut edges of boards: Lightly sand to remove paper burrs.

- Filling and taping: Fill joints, gaps and internal angles with jointing compound and cover with continuous lengths of paper tape, fully bedded.

- Protection of edges/ corners: Reinforce external angles, stop ends, etc. with specified edge/ angle bead.

- Finishing: Apply jointing compound. Feather out each application beyond previous application to give a flush, smooth, seamless surface.

- Nail/ screw depressions: Fill with jointing compound to give a flush surface.

- Minor imperfections: Lightly sand jointing and spotting to remove any minor imperfections.
K10/680 SKIM COAT PLASTER FINISH

Type: Thistle Multi Finish generally.

Thistle Durafinish to Duraline plasterboard.

Thickness: 3 mm.

- Joints: Fill and tape except where coincident with metal beads.


  • Finishing: Trowel/ float to a tight, matt, smooth surface with no hollows, abrupt changes of level or trowel marks.

K10/692 RIGID BEADS/ STOPS

- Type: Galvanized steel to BS 6452-1.

K10/695 INSTALLING BEADS/ STOPS

- Cutting: Neatly using mitres at return angles.

- Fixing: Securely using longest possible lengths, plumb, square and true to line and level, ensuring full contact of wings with background.



  • Finishing: After joint compounds/ plasters have been applied, remove surplus material while still wet from surfaces of beads which are exposed to view.

K10/725 REPAIRS TO EXISTING PLASTERBOARD

- Filling small areas with broken cores: Cut away paper facing, remove loose core material and fill with jointing compound.

- Finish: Flush, smooth surface suitable for redecoration.

- Large patch repairs: Cut out damaged area and form neat hole with rectangular sides. Replace with matching plasterboard.

- Fixing: Use methods to suit type of dry lining, ensuring full support to all edges of existing and new plasterboard.



  • Finishing: Fill joints, tape and apply jointing compound to give a flush, smooth

surface suitable for redecoration.
