Comments:

(1) In the map of Hultén & Fries (1986 map 1260) some occurrences in Kanin Peninsula, Malozemelskaya and Bolshezemelskaya Tundras are close to or penetrating the Arctic. Should probably be accepted as a border case. (Elven)

Comments:

(1) Mapped by Kristinsson from the arctic parts of Iceland, in the Eyjafjördur area. (Elven)

63.1.2  Linum perenne L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 277.

Comments:

(1) If we consider all the northern material as races of L. perenne, we have to decide whether the northern Russian material is to be placed in a (widely defined) subsp. perenne or in a separate race, 'komarovii' or 'boreale'. If we split the L. perenne group on two species the names are clear (L. komarovii and L. lewisii) but then we should unite them in an aggregate   the L. perenne aggregate   with a comment. What we can't do is to recognise the Russian plant as a separate species while we keep the North American one within L. perenne. (Elven)

WARNING! Might be split on two species, L. komarovii and L. lewisii.
63.1.2.1  Linum perenne L. subsp. perenne

S L. perenne L. var. boreale (Juz.) Serg. in Krylov (1964), Fl. Zap. Sib. 12, 2: 3381; L. boreale Juz. in Kom. (1949, Fl. SSSR 14: 111, 718; L. komarovii Juz. in Kom. (1949, Fl. SSSR 14: 112, 719) subsp. boreale (Juz.) Egor. in Tzvel. (1996), Fl. Vost. Evr. 9: 354.

2n= (1) 18 (2x). (2) 36 (4x).

2nD (1-2) Bolkhovskikh et al. (1969) list two counts for each level, for L. alpinum.

G RUS SIB RFE?

Comments:

(1) The northern Russian material is considered as a separate var. boreale. Flora Europaea 2 (1968) recognizes the N Ural plants as: subsp. alpinum (Jacq.) Ockendon (1967), Feddes Repert. 74: 20 [basionym: L. alpinum Jacq. (1762), Enum. Stirp. Vindob. 54: 229]. Should we accept this? Egorova now recognizes it as L. komarovii subsp. boreale. (Elven)
63.1.2.2  Linum perenne L. subsp. lewisii (Pursh) Hultén (1947), Lunds Univ. Årsskr., n. f., avd. 2, 43, 1: 1122.

B L. lewisii Pursh (1814), Fl. Amer. Sept. 1: 210.

Comments:

Comments:

(1) Reaches the Arctic as defined in the Yukon River delta. Replaced by I. capensis Meerb. (1775), Afbeeld. Zeldz. Gew. t. 10, in most of North America, e.g., in the Hudson/James Bay area, but that species does not seem to reach the Arctic. (Elven)

[00]  Thymelaeaceae (Draft: R. Elven)

THIS DRAFT HAS NOT BEEN DISCUSSED
Daphne L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 356, with D. mezereum L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 356, approaches but probably does not reach the Arctic in northern European Russia (Ko, Ka, MT, BT). The mapped sites seem to be too far south for it to be an acceptable border case. (Elven)

[00]  Hypericaceae (Draft: R. Elven)

THIS DRAFT HAS NOT BEEN DISCUSSED
Hypericum L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 783, with H. maculatum Cr. (1763), Stirp. Austr. 2: 64, approaches the Arctic in N Norway and in N Russia (BT) but is probably only found distinctly south of boundary. The plants that approach the Arctic belong to subsp. maculatum. (Elven)
