Comments: (1) In the map of Hultén & Fries (1986 map 1260) some occurrences in Kanin Peninsula, Malozemelskaya and Bolshezemelskaya Tundras are close to or penetrating the Arctic. Comments: (1) Geranium bicknellii Britt. (1897), Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 1897: 92, is mapped close to SW Hudson Bay by Porsild & Cody (1980) but is only reported well south of Churchill and from the James Bay area by Scoggan (1978). Not included. (Elven)

Comments: (1) Mapped by Kristinsson from the arctic parts of Iceland, in the Eyjafjördur area. (Elven) 63.1.2 Linum perenne L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 277. S Comments: (1) If we consider all the northern material as races of L. perenne, we have to decide whether the northern Russian material is to be placed in a (widely defined) subsp. perenne or in a separate race, 'komarovii' or 'boreale'. If we split the L. perenne group on two species the names are clear (L. komarovii and L. lewisii) but then we should unite them in an aggregate the L. perenne aggregate with a comment. What we can't do is to recognise the Russian plant as a separate species while we keep the North American one within L. perenne. (Elven) WARNING! Comments: (1) Reaches the Arctic as defined in the Yukon River delta. Replaced by I. capensis Meerb. (1775), Afbeeld. Zeldz. Gew. t. 10, in most of North America, e.g., in the Hudson/James Bay area, but that species does not seem to reach the Arctic. (Elven) [00] Thymelaeaceae (Draft: R. Elven) THIS DRAFT HAS NOT BEEN DISCUSSED Daphne L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 356, with D. mezereum L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 356, approaches but probably does not reach the Arctic in northern European Russia (Ko, Ka, MT, BT). The mapped sites seem to be too far south for it to be an acceptable border case. Austr. 2: 64, approaches the Arctic in N Norway and in N Russia (BT) but is probably only found distinctly south of boundary. The plants that approach the Arctic belong to subsp. maculatum. (Elven) |
