THE PENTICTON HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION

PRESS RELEASE:
PHA looks to a positive future.
Penticton: Monday 26th February, 2013:
Following its recent Annual General Meeting, the Penticton Hospitality Association announced a number of updates and strategic initiatives related to both its own industry sector operations and the management of MRDT funds, formerly known as the AHRT, which included the continued roll-out of its destination marketing strategy.).
Robert Appelman (President of the Penticton Hospitality Association) commented: “The Association has had a great deal on its plate over the past few months, the sad passing of our former president (Ed Brown), the creation of a new destination marketing strategy for Penticton & Wine Country and even the restructuring of the Association itself (in order to deal with the responsibility’s that come with being custodians of the MRDT or 2%). However, after a lot of hard work and long hours from the whole team, I’m delighted to say that the PHA has risen to the occasion and come through those changes extremely well. Having now met with the majority of vested interest party’s (not all) throughout the community, we are well placed to begin implementing our strategic goals: The distribution of MRDT funds for the effective marketing of Penticton & Wine Country within its defined demographic targets”.
The Association has spent some months formulating a way forward as well as meeting and canvassing the views of key organizations and individuals within the community. As new President, Appelman stressed that he had wanted to take time to assess the specific needs of Penticton & Wine Country to enable the Association to maximize marketing output with what is a limited marketing budget. After extremely positive discussions with key partners in and around Penticton (including business owners, events organizers, City departments and the general public) the PHA is strident in its belief that the future is bright and for the benefit of all stakeholders a ‘collaborative approach’ is a key element in moving forward. He stated: “We need to realize that we are all in this together and should support each other as much as possible. We want to continue to be open to all community groups: events, organizations, festivals, individuals, new and old but are going to ensure that initiatives related to marketing efforts are commercially astute and offer real ROI (financial or otherwise) to the community”.
Appelman added: “Penticton is the ‘Jewel of the Okanagan, the Hub’ and we believe that the unparalleled range of activities available to visitors in conjunction with our natural features, is a winning formula. We aim to focus in large part on getting this message out in the field so as to re-engage with our traditional customer base but to also strategically target those unfamiliar with our community. We will be supporting current initiatives (and stakeholders) and implementing a number of new projects too. The new strategic direction provides a clarity of vision and collaborative approach that bodes extremely well for the future. Despite past upheavals everyone that we have met with is extremely positive and onboard with the new approach. I’m very excited about it”.
During the meeting, the Association elected a number of officials including some new faces: Rob Appelman (President), Bing Xui (Vice President), Marko Cucnik (Treasurer and Secretary), Trinka Pontes (Director), Paul Buttar (Director), Tim Hodgkinson (Operations), Stacy Tonita (Director), Graeme Jenkins (Director).
