The 110th Birthday of Mao Zedong Marked
It will come to the 110th birthday of Mao Zedong, Chinese great leader, on Dec, 26, 2003.

Mao Zedong was born into a peasant’s family in Shaoshan, central China’s Hunan Province on

Dec 26, 1893. His life is a glorious epic, through which the great chapters of the May 4th Movement, the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the first cooperation between Kuomintang and the CPC, the Autumn Harvesting Uprising, the founding of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base, the Long March, the anti-Japanese War (1937-45), China’s War of Liberation (1946-49), the founding of the people’s democratic authority and socialism revolutionary and construction, the Chinese people and the people of the whole world have got to know him, a great Marxist, prominent proletarian revolutionist, strategist and theorist, important founder and leader of the CPC, People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and People’s Republic of China (PRC).

The whole life of Mao Zedong is a heroic epic of seeking, striving for, and finding truth, defeating enemies from home and abroad through scores of years’ strenuous fight, and founding the People’s Republic of China with his comrades.

Both Mao Zemin and Mao Zetan dedicated themselves to the Chinese revolutionary cause.

Mao Zedong has a photo taken in Yan’an in 1937 with some of his comrades who had taken part in the Autumn Harvesting Uprising.

Mao Zedong and Jiang Kai-shek have a photo taken in Chongqing in August, 1945. After 43 days of tough negotiations, the delegates from Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China signed the “Summery of Talks Between the Government and the Delegates of the CPC” (nicknamed the Double Ten Conventions) on Oct. 10.

The Seventh National Congress of the CPC was held in Yan’an, 1945. Mao Zedong presided over the congress and delivered the opening address called the “ Destinies of the Two Chinas ” and the closing address “Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains”. And he also submitted the written political report on the “Coalition Government”. The congress set Mao Zedong thought as the guidelines of all the work of the CPC. Mao Zedong led the central organs of the Communist Party of China and headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) retreated from Yan’an and moved to northern Shaanxi Province in 1947. Photo shows Mao Zedong marching in the defending battle of northern Shaanxi.

Photo shows Mao Zedong and his elder son Mao Anying at the Xiangshan Hill in Beiping (nowadays Beijing), 1949. Mao Anying, the elder son of Mao Zedong and Yang Kaihui, was killed by American bombardments when he was on duty in the commanding room of the headquarters of the Chinese Volunteers in Korea on Nov. 25, 1950.

Mao Zedong solemnly proclaims to the world the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on the inauguration ceremony of New China on Oct. 1, 1949. Mao Zedong was elected chairman of the Central People’s Government and the People’s Revolutionary Military Committee in the first session of the Central People’s Government Council of the PRC.

The Chinese Government delegation led by Mao Zedong arrived in Moscow to pay the first visit to the Soviet Union on Dec. 16, 1949. Photo shows Mao Zedong attending the celebration marking the 70th birthday of Stalin in Moscow on Dec. 21.

Mao Zedong called for the whole party to study hard scientific knowledge and strive for the goal of catching up with the advanced world level of sciences and technology at the meeting on the issues of intellectuals held by the Central Committee of the CPC, on Jan. 20, 1956.

Mao Zedong holds frank and serious talks with U.S. President Richard Nixon in Zhongnanhai in Beijing on Feb. 21, 1972. The two parties released the Joint Statement in Shanghai on Feb. 28, deciding to normalize relations between the People’s Republic of China and United States of America.
