What Works in Gender Training
Prepared by Maria Dubois, Peacebuild Intern
The Gender, Security, and Fragile States –What Works in Gender Training conference was held January 21st, 2008 at the Capital Hill Suites in the Nation’s Capital. This three-day workshop sought to bring in many experienced voices to isolate the gaps and outline good practice policies which could improve gender training programs.
A few key issues were raised such as the need for advocacy of gender training issues by the international media; devising a situational analysis mechanism; the need for thorough staff training; implementing accountability systems; and engaging the commitment of senior management. The conference was a great forum to discuss issues of gender and security among many sectors of governmental and non-governmental organizations. Both groups agreed on further collaboration regarding issues of information dissemination, implementation and accountability.
