Information Brochure for admission to B.Sc.B.Ed.,

B.Ed. (Secondary) and M.Ed.(Elementary Education)
Session: 2011-12

The Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer (Formerly known as Regional College of Education) is a constituent unit of the N.C.E.R.T., which is an autonomous body set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The Institute is affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer and recognized by NCTE for educational needs and caters to the Northern Region of the Country.
1. INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES

  1. Candidates are advised to read carefully the rules and regulations given in the Information Brochure and confirm their eligibility for admission to the course before applying.

  2. Applications received only on the form for admission prescribed for the current session (2011-12) will be accepted. Application by fax or any other Electronic device will not be accepted. Incomplete application and application received after the closing date and time will not be entertained. No mark-sheet or any other document will be accepted after the expiry of the last date and time for the receipt of application. Mark-sheet downloaded from Internet will not be acceptable.

  3. The admission in this Institute is restricted to the candidates belonging to the States of the Northern Region comprising Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh (For details: Please see Special Instructions on page Number - 5)

  4. Any dispute related to admission, refusal or cancellation of admission and all other related matters shall be under the jurisdiction of Ajmer Courts only.


2. THE COURSES OFFERED

The Institute offers the following regular courses:


(A) Four Year Integrated B.Sc. B.Ed. Course (124)

The course has two groups: - (i) Physical Science Group (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) & (ii) Biological Science Group (Botany, Zoology & Chemistry). In case a candidate desires to apply to both Physical Science Group as well as to Biological Science Group, he/she should submit separate application for each group.


In addition to Science subjects, candidates have to study Education and other related subjects.
Numbers of seats available for admission are:

(i) Physical Science Group – 60 (ii) Biological Science Group – 60

Two seats are reserved in each group for physically handicapped candidate.


ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION CRITERIA


    1. Only those candidates are eligible who have passed Senior Secondary (+2)/Intermediate or equivalent examination of a University/Board recognized by the M.D.S. University, Ajmer in the year 2010 or 2011 with at least 50% marks in aggregate of all the subjects studied. This limit is relax-able by 5% for SC/ST candidates.




    1. Dropouts/failures of B.Sc.B.Ed. I year are not eligible for re-admission.




    1. Selection is based on aggregate of marks of all the subjects studied at +2 level. However, candidates seeking admission to Physical Science Group must have passed Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and those seeking admission to Biological Science Group must have passed Physics, Chemistry & Biology at +2 level.

In case there are more than one candidate having the same percentage of marks in aggregate, the one who has higher percentage in Mathematics in case of Physical Science Group and in Biology in case of Biological Science Group will be placed higher in merit list of the respective course.




    1. Amongst candidates with the same percentage in the aggregate and same percentage in Mathematics/Biology, the one who has passed in One Attempt will be placed higher in merit and if number of attempts are also same, the one senior in age will be placed higher in merit.




    1. Two seats are reserved for physically handicapped candidate in each group.

NO CHANGE OF GROUP FROM PHYSICAL SCIENCE TO BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE AND VICE VERSA WILL BE PERMITTED. ONCE A CANDIDATE IS ADMITTED TO A PARTICULAR GROUP, FEE WILL NOT BE REFUNDED AND IS ALSO NOT TRANSFERABLE.


(B) Two Year B.Ed. (Secondary) (124)
The Institute offers two groups:

(i) Science Group and (ii) Humanities and Social Science Group


The candidate will be eligible for admission to Science Group if he/she has studied any one of the following two combinations at least for two years at the graduate level as optional/subsidiary subjects and has also passed university examination each year:

(a) Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (b) Chemistry, Botany and Zoology


The candidate will be eligible for admission to the Humanities and Social Science Group if he/she has passed B.A. or equivalent course with any two subjects of the following three subject combinations for at least two years (the relevant subject studied at Post-Graduate level will also be considered for determining the eligibility of the candidate.)

  1. Any one subject out of Hindi, English and Urdu as optional subject.

  2. Any one subject out of History and Political Science for opting Social Science-I (SS-I)

  3. Any one subject out of Geography and Economics for opting Social Science-II (SS-II)

Hindi/English/Urdu must have been studied as optional or elective and not as general/compulsory subject.


TEACHING SUBJECTS TO BE OPTED

A candidate may opt any one of the following combinations as teaching subjects. The essential requirement of subjects studied at the Undergraduate and/or Post-Graduate level is also given against the combination offered.

1. Content-cum-methodology of Science I Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (for Physical Science Group) and Content-cum-methodology of Mathematics

2. Content-cum-methodology of Science-2 Chemistry, Botany and Zoology

(for Biological Science Group) and

Content-cum-methodology of Chemistry
(b) For Humanities & Social Science Group:

1. Hindi and SS-I (History & Civics) Hindi & History/Political Science

2. Hindi & SS-II (Geography & Economics) Hindi & Geography/Economics

3. English & SS-I (History & Civics) English & History/Political Science

4. English & SS-II (Geography & Economics) English & Geography/Economics

5. Urdu & SS-I (History & Civics) Urdu & History/Political Science

6. Urdu & SS-II (Geography & Economics) Urdu & Geography/Economics

7. SS-I (History & Civics) and History/Political Science &

SS-II (Geography & Economics) Geography/Economics
No change of teaching subjects will be permitted after the submission of application. Once a candidate is admitted to a particular group the fee will not be refunded or transferred. However, if a candidate desires to be considered for more than one combination of teaching subjects, separate application should be submitted for each combination.
ELIGIBILITY: The candidate must have passed three Year Degree Course with 50% marks in the aggregate at Graduation level, relax able by 5% for SC/ST candidates. Graduates with two year degree course are not eligible.

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES


Number of seats:

1. Science Group

(a) Physical Science – 30 (b) Biological Science – 30

One seat is reserved in each group for physically handicapped candidate.

2. Humanities & Social Science Group
(a) Hindi & SS-I/SS-II – 15 (b) English & SS-I/SS-II –15

(c) Urdu & SS-I/SS-II – 15 (d) SS-I & SS-II –15

Two seat are reserved for Physically Handicapped candidate in addition to number of seats mentioned above. It would be allotted on the basis of merit of all the eligible physically handicapped candidates. If no eligible physically handicapped candidate applies, the seats would go to Hindi group.
Selection will be made on the basis of State-wise merit for each group and sub group. The merit list will be prepared in accordance with the following criteria:


  1. Percentage of marks obtained at Graduate level will be taken as the base marks.

  2. Credit Marks for Post-Graduate Degree in the relevant subject would be given as follows:

First Division – 6 marks, Second Division – 4 marks, Third Division/Pass – 2 marks


  1. In case, the mark-sheet does not indicate the division, Credit Marks for P.G. Degree will be awarded as follows:

60% & above – 6 marks, 48% & above but less than 60% - 4 marks, less than 48% - 2

marks
Credit Marks will be added to base marks to obtain the Total Credit Marks (TCM). The following criteria will be used to prepare the merit list:



  1. Applicant with higher TCM will be placed higher in the merit list.

  2. Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, the one with Post-Graduate Degree will be placed higher in merit.

  3. Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, and having Post-Graduate Degree, the one who has higher percentage in Post-Graduate degree will be placed higher in merit.

  4. Amongst the candidates with the same TCM, and percentage in the Post-Graduate degree, the one senior in age will be placed higher in merit.


(C) One Year M.Ed. (Elementary Education) (31)

Number of Seats: 30 (One seat is reserved for physically handicapped candidates)


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  1. Only those candidates will be eligible who have passed three year degree course and studied for at least two years.




  1. The admission for the degree of Master of Education shall be open to candidates who have passed the B.Ed. Examination/ four year B.Sc.B.Ed. Examination/ B.Ed. (Secondary) two year/four year B.A.B.Ed. or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto pursued as regular course of study as hereinafter prescribed for not less than one academic year.




  1. Candidates with 50% marks and above in Education Theory Papers in the above mentioned examination will only be eligible for applying to this course. This limit is relax able by 5% for SC/ST Candidates.




  1. Eligibility of the candidate from a state will be determined based on the location of the university from where the candidate has passed B.Ed. or equivalent examination.

Following criteria will be used for preparing the merit list: -




  1. Applicant with eligible percentage in B.Ed. Education Theory Papers will be called for test. .

  2. Merit list will be prepared on the basis of percentage marks (60% weight-age) and score obtained in written test (40% weight-age).

Note: -


    1. In case grades have been awarded to a candidate, he/she must attach the grade conversion formula duly authenticated by the university under reference.

    2. In case mark-sheets of the qualifying examination and Part I & II of Master’s Degree Examination do not indicate maximum and aggregate marks, the candidate should submit a certificate from the Principal of the concerned College or Registrar of the concerned University indicating Maximum marks Year-wise and aggregate marks.

    3. Candidates who have passed Four Year B.Sc. B.Ed./B.A. B.Ed. Examination must submit their Marks-sheets of I, II, III & IV Year and candidates having passed B.Ed. (Secondary) two year, must submit their mark sheet for both the years.


SELECTION OF CANDIDATES:
Selection will be made on the basis of state-wise quota. Merit list will be prepared in accordance with pre decided laid down criteria, which may consist of the scores in the written test and interview. Preference in the admission will be given to deputed candidates from National/Regional/State/District Level or other recognized educational organisations situated in the region covered by RIE, Ajmer.
3. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM
The Application Form can be obtained from the Administrative Officer, Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer on pre-payment of Rs. 100.00 (Rupees One Hundred only) through crossed Indian Postal Order in favour of the Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer payable at Ajmer. Self-addressed envelop (26×20 cm) bearing postal stamps of Rs. 25/- must be enclosed with the request for obtaining an Application Form. The Application Form can also be obtained at the Institute counter through payment of I.P.O. for Rs. 100/- or Cash. Payment through Cheque, Money Order, and Bank Draft etc. will not be accepted. The Application form can also be down-loaded from Institute’s Website www.rieajmer.ac.in. Downloaded forms along with all required documents must be accompanied an I.P.O. worth Rs.100/-. The application fee is not refundable in any case. The Application Form duly completed in all respects should reach the Administrative Officer, Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer (Pin-305004) by hand or Registered Post by or before 5:30 P.M. on 30th June, 2011. The Institute remains closed on Saturday, Sunday & other Holidays.
4. INFORMATION OF SELECTION

ONLY SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE INFORMED ABOUT THEIR ADMISSION THROUGH REGISTERED LETTER. NO CORRESPONDENCE IN THIS REGARD WILL BE ENTERTAINED.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. State-wise quota for admission to different courses is fixed. Eligibility for admission under State quota would be adjudged on the basis of passing of qualifying examination from the concerned State. Candidates seeking admission to a course would be required to mention the State from which they have passed the respective qualifying examination. The information is to be invariably filled up in the relevant column of the Application Form. The qualifying examination for determining the State is given below: -

  1. In case of a private candidate the State will be determined by the location of the examination center of the Board/Open School/University from which he/she has passed qualifying examination.




  1. In case of candidate who has not passed the qualifying examination from any of the States of the Northern Region, his/her eligibility for admission under a particular State quota would be considered only when he/she is the son/daughter/wife/husband of a person belonging to the Central Govt./Autonomous Institution under the Central Government transferable all over India and at present posted in any of the States of the Northern Region. Certificate to this effect printed on the Application Form should be signed by the Head of the concerned Institution/Department.


NOTES: -

    1. In case of Defense Personnel, if place of posting is not disclosed due to security reasons, the employer must certify the State of posting of the employee.

    2. Certificate of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe OBC should be signed by the Distt. Magistrate/Tehsildar/Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

    3. Physically Handicapped applicants will be required to submit the Disability Certificate (including blind, deaf & dumb) with at least 40% disability from the Reader in the concerned specialty where there is a Medical College or from the Junior Specialist in the concerned specialty of the S.M.H.O. at places where there is no Medical College.

    4. Employed candidate, whether in teaching or otherwise, must apply through Employer and will have to submit relieving certificate from the employer before joining, in case of selection. Those, who are not employed, must give undertaking that they are not employed.


5. HOSTEL

The Institute has separate hostel accommodation for boys & girls.


6. RESERVATION OF SEATS

SC-15% and ST-7.5%, OBC -27% & Physically Handicapped-3%

OBC candidates will have to attach a certificate from competent authority stating that he/she

does not belong to Creamy layer.


7. SCHOLARSHIPS

All SC, ST and 50% of remaining general students will be awarded scholarship as per N.C.E.R.T. rules on submission of Parent’s Income Certificate. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit list for admission. Staying in hostel is compulsory for scholarship holders.


8. ENCLOSURES REQUIRED

Photocopies of the following documents signed by the candidate must be enclosed with the Application Form:




  1. Certificate of High School/ Secondary/ PUC/ Intermediate/ equivalent Examination showing date of birth.

  2. All Mark-sheets of those examinations about which details have been given under the head-educational qualifications.

  3. SC/ST/OBC(Along with Creamy layer Certificate) & Physically Handicapped Certificate, if applicable.


9. ATTENDANCE RULES

    1. Every student has to attend at least 75% of lectures and practicals in each subject/paper for appearing in University Examination as per University Rules.

    2. The Institute may impose fine on irregularity of attending classes, as it may deem fit, with no bearing on condoning the shortage of attendance.

    3. If the candidate is found to be absent for 15 days without permission, his/her admission could be cancelled without any notice.


10.(A) COUNCIL FUNDS

      1. Tuition fee @ Rs. 250/- p.m. for twelve months is to be paid in two equal installments. First installment of Rs. 1500/- to be paid at the time of admission and the second installment in December. It is non-refundable and SC and ST students are exempted from tuition fee.

      2. Room Rent, Water and Electricity Charges to be paid in two installments payable in July Rs.2400/- and in December Rs.2000/- (@ Rs.400/- p.m.).

      3. Games & Sports, Medical and Library Fees Rs. 100/-

      4. Hostel Caution Money (Refundable) Rs. 500/-

      5. Institute Caution Money (Refundable) Rs. 500/-

(Non-refundable in case of voluntary withdrawal from the Institute)

      1. Identity Card Rs. 20/-


(B) NON-COUNCIL FUND

      1. Mess Advance to be paid in two installments of Rs. 5,000/- each payable in July and December. If the mess bill exceeds Rs. 10,000/- p.a., the balance is to be paid in March.

      2. Students’ Council Fund Rs. 225/-

      3. Students’ Establishment Fund Rs. 250/-

      4. Overhead Charges for Hostlers Rs. 50/-

      5. Students’ Welfare Fund Rs. 200/-

      6. Evaluation Fee Rs. 50/-


(C) OTHER CHARGES

      1. University Enrolment Fee Rs. 100/-

      2. University Eligibility Fee Rs. 100/-

      3. University Games and Sports Fee Rs. 70/-

      4. Computer Fee For 1st year B.Sc.B.Ed.,
