Obituary Laz Diaz

November 2008

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you that our friend and former
colleague, Laz Diaz, passed away on Friday, November 7.   His family was at his
side.

Laz held a Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia University.   He joined

the Bank  in 1985 in the then Medical Department as a Staff Relations Officer.
Many of you will remember him in his various positions as Ethics Officer
(1988-1991), Manager, Benefits Unit (1991-1995), Human Resources Counselor
(1995-1998) and Manager, Human Resources (1998-2002).   He took early retirement
from the Bank in July 2002 to accompany his wife on her assignment with the
Asian Development Bank in the Philippines.   When they returned to Washington,
Laz worked as a consultant in HRS.  His last assignment was with the Corporate
Team supporting its MIGA clients.

Laz will be fondly remembered by his colleagues in HRS for his openness, his

caring manner and his high integrity.  He was deeply committed to the Bank's
mission and in the various positions he held with HRS he exemplified the finest
qualities of  strong work ethic, compassionate service to people genuinely in
need, and a healthy respect for and dedication to the Bank's policies and the
standards of behavior and conduct they demand from all of us.  He was highly
respected by his colleagues and his clients who appreciated his wise counsel and
sense of decency.    He will be dearly missed.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife, Thelma, his children, Mariel

and Zachary, his stepchildren Karla and Patricia, his parents, other members of
his family, friends and colleagues.
