Light-weight and flexible
Fast acting rectifier ROBA®-multiswitch with variable output voltages
The installation space for control cabinets is often limited. A compact, light-weight, energy and cost-saving solution is therefore the ROBA®-multiswitch fast switching module by mayr® power transmission. A new design, which allows adjustment of the output voltage via a DIP switch, now permits the control of different components.
In power transmission, electromagnetic safety brakes are normally controlled through rectifiers. They connect the brakes as DC consumers to the alternating voltage supply. Rectifiers are used in the area of elevator technology, but also in other applications, for example when controlling locking magnets for door drives or when retrofitting classic drum brakes. The control cabinets into which these circuit modules are integrated are often limited in terms of both space and weight. Therefore, Olav Hennemann, CEO of HEC GmbH in Münster, places his trust as a manufacturer of control cabinets for elevator technology in the compact rectifiers of the ROBA®-switch series by mayr® power transmission: “They are significantly smaller and lighter than the big standard transformers frequently used. It could be that the transformers break off the installation plates of the control cabinets during transport due to their weight, thus causing damage”. mayr® power transmission have developed a ROBA®-multiswitch fast acting rectifier design with a uniform input voltage of 230 VAC with simultaneous variable output voltage. The output voltage of 42 to 180 VDC can be adjusted via a DIP switch. This means that this module not only saves weight and space, but also allows the control of different components.
Less costs and lower energy consumption
“Due to the compact design of the ROBA®-multiswitch, I can use a smaller control cabinet, thus making substantial savings on costs”, Olav Hennemann explains. “Furthermore, the switchgears can be fitted, which minimises the component variety required. The wiring effort is also smaller”. Another important aspect is the lower energy consumption of the fast acting rectifier by mayr® power transmission: In contrast to transformers, which are energised constantly, the ROBA®-multiswitch is only energised when it is needed. Because of its positive characteristics, the ROBA®-multiswitch is used in numerous applications, in particular for retrofitting solutions and new developments in control cabinet and switch cabinet construction.

Another application area in the field of elevator technology is hydraulic elevators, which are equipped with magnetic valves with special voltages, such as 60 VDC. Here, the savings potentials described also apply; this means that a transformer as well as a further rectifier can be replaced by the ROBA®-multiswitch.

Apart from this, HEC also equips the control cabinets on the elevator cabins with the ROBA®-multiswitch. In the past, the transformer was always placed outside the control cabinet for reasons of space. Moreover, the wiring effort was very high. The control cabinet can now be supplied as a complete unit – and the question of where to place the transformer has been answered.
