LANDGUARD BIRD OBSERVATORY DECEMBER 2001.

It should be noted that all records of county rarities and BBRC,s await consideration by the relevant record committees.

RED-THROATED DIVER Gavia stellata

Movements recorded on five dates from the 12^th with accumulated totals being seven north and four south. Max count was of five north on the 12^th with two north on the 15^th and two south on the 30^th being the next highest counts.

One south on the 30^th was the only record.

Movements noted were, five south on the 15^th and seven north and one south on the 30^th. Recorded offshore on four dates from the 4^th to 23^rd with five bird days. Max two on the 12^th.

Singles present offshore on the 2^nd and 24^th.

Movements noted on five dates with accumulated totals being 10 north and 11 south. Max was of seven north and seven south ( !?) on the 12^th.

Movements noted on three dates from the 15^th with accumulated totals being one north and five south. Max was three south on the 30^th. In addition one was found dead on the 18^th.

One south on the 23^rd.

Two north on the 15^th.

Singles were recorded as present on the 15^th, 16^th and 30^th.

Singles present on the 4^th, 15^th, 16^th and 23^rd..

Present throughout. Max count of six on the 23^rd.

One south on the 24^th was the only record.

High tide roost counts were c20 on the 2^nd, c160 on the 12^th and four on the 28^th.

One south on the 23^rd.

One south on the 9^th.

18 south on the 30^th.

One present on the 12^th.

Four south on the 30^th.

One south on the 29^th.

One present on the 24^th.

Recorded as present on 10 dates with 38 bird days. Max was eight on the 1^st and 11^th with five on the 23^rd being the next highest count.

Recorded as present on 10 dates with 23 bird days. Six individuals were identified during the month with four adults and single second and first winters present. Max was five on the 15 when four adults and a second winter were present with the next highest counts being three on the 8^th (two adults and a first winter) and 12^th (three adults).

Present throughout. Max count of c160 on the 23^rd.

Present throughout. Max of c560 on the 23^rd with c500 on both the 16^th and 28^th.

Recorded from the 16^th on four dates with 13 bird days. Max six on the 23^rd with five (all adults) on the 24^th.

Present throughout. Max count was of c130 on the 23^rd.

Present throughout. Max count was of 46 on the 23^rd.

Present throughout. Max of c125 on the 30^th with the next highest count being c50 on the 16^th and 28^th with c40 on the 2^nd, 23^rd and 24^th.

Singles present offshore on the 12^th, 14^th, 18^th (oiled) and 24^th. In addition on was found dead on the 16^th.

One present on the 23^rd was the only record.

Present throughout. Max was c30 on both the 1^st and 4^th with c25 present on the 8^th, 11^th and 12^th. Numbers by the end of the year had decreased to 12 by the 23^rd.

Present throughout. Mac of 14 on both the 11^th and 12^th with numbers decreasing to four by the 23^rd.

One found long dead on the 29^th.

Movements noted were of singles south on both the 2^nd and 6^th. Singles were present on the 8^th and 23^rd.

Recorded as present on six dates with 11 bird days. Max of four on the 8^th with three on the 6^th, The last bird of the year was a single on the 20^th.

Singles present on four dates up to the 12^th.

Present throughout. Max of 10 on the 20^th with eight on the 14^th being the next highest count.

Present throughout. Max of c30 on the 6^th with c25 on the 20^th. The last count for the year was of four on the 23^rd though this is probably not a true reflection on the population.

The population was estimated to have being c10 birds for most of the month, The last count on the 23^rd however revealed just four birds.

Present throughout. Max of c25 on both the 1^st and 8^th with c15 on the 24^th being the last count of the year.

One present on the 24^th.

Present throughout. Max of two on the 6^th, 11^th, 14^th and 24^th. The last record for the year was of a single on the 29^th,

Singles were present on the 3^rd and 23^rd.

One on the 20^th was deemed to be a P.c.tristis type with this bird also present on the 23^rd along with a nominate type.

Recorded on 12 dates with 19 bird days with the max count being three on the 1^st with two on a further five dates up to the 20^th. The last bird for the year was seen on the 30^th.

One present on the 1^st was the last for the year.

Recorded on eight dates up to the 29^th with 16 bird days. Max count of three on both the 6^th and 8^th.

Present throughout. Max of eight on the 12^th with seven on the 8^th and 11^th.

Present throughout. Max of 40 on the 12^th with c30 on the 1^st, 6^th, 8^th and 30^th.

Present throughout. The only count was of 22+ on the 23^rd.

Present throughout. Max of two on the 2^nd with all other records referring to a single.

Present throughout. Max of 10 on the 28^th with eight on both the 11^th and 15^th being the next highest count.

Recorded as present from the 4^th to the 20^th on seven dates with 10 bird days. Max were three on the 9^th with two on the 6^th being the only other multiple counts.

One present on the 6^th with six on the 23^rd were the only records.

Birds present were six on the 8^th and 25 on the 24^th.
