Finder In the menu bar select Go ->Connect to Server

Accessing MARL ftp site on Mac OS X Lion

  1. Open Finder




  1. In the menu bar select Go ->Connect to Server...



(Alternatively the shortcut in Finder is Command+K)


  1. For the Server Address enter:

ftp://www.marl.iastate.edu

(If access will be frequent you can hit the + button to add the server to your Favorite Servers list. If you forget the address in the future recent servers can be found by pressing the button with the image of a clock)



  1. Press the Connect button.




  1. Enter user Name and Password or select Guest.

 



  1. Press the Connect button.




  1. You should now be connected to the MARL server and able to access the folder containing your data/images.

Creating a Shortcut on a Macintosh

A file server shortcut will enable you to click or double-click an icon to connect to the file server. You can create shortcuts in the Finder window Sidebar or in the Dock. Each method is outlined below. Choose the one that best suits your needs.



Sidebar Shortcut

  1. Make sure you are connected to the file server.

  2. Display the folder you want to create a shortcut for.

  3. Drag the folder from the Finder window contents section to the window's Sidebar.

  4. Sidebar icons can be placed in any order you wish. When dragging the icon to the sidebar a blue line will indicate where the icon will be placed when you release the mouse.

  5. To reconnect, simply click once on the icon.
Note: If you haven't already authenticated/logged into your computer, you will be prompted for your log in name and password.

Dock Shortcut

  1. Make sure you are connected to the file server.

  2. Display the folder you want to create a shortcut for.

  3. Drag the folder from the Finder window contents section to Dock.

  4. When placing items in the Dock, they need to be placed:

  5. When dragging the icon to the Dock a space will "open up" for the icon to indicate where the icon will be placed when you release the mouse.

  6. To reconnect, simply click once on the icon.
Note: If you haven't already authenticated/logged into your computer, you will be prompted for your log in name and password.
