Title of Ph.D. Thesis

“Studies in the chemical constituents of Tagetes erecta, Tagetes patula and Phlox drummondii.”

Supervisor

Professor Dr. Shaheen Faizi, S. I.

SPECIAL PARTICULARS

  • Thesis (M.Sc.): The title of thesis was “Studies in the Chemical Constituents of Melia azedarach)”

  • Highest marks have been obtained in the Ph.D. courses held at H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry.

EXPERIENCE

Therteen years of experience in:

1) Bioassay directed isolation and structure elucidation of alkaloidal, terpenoidal, aromatic and glycosidal constituents of various medicinal plants, which are Aegle marmelos, Melia azedarach,, Phlox drummondii, Tagetes patula, and T. erecta.

2) Discovery and development of new synthetic strategies for the preparation of biologically important derivatives of pyridines and -carbolines.

3) Preparation of various physiologically important derivatives of patuletin, flavonoid of T. patula, simple aromtic compounds, and citric acid for the establishment of a correlation of their structure and activity relationship.

For isolation and separation of various constituents chromatographic techniques (column, flash column, preparative thick layer, thin layer, vacuum liquid chromatography, GC, GCMS, and HPLC) have been utilized, along with classical methods.

For structure elucidation work, chemical as well as spectroscopic means were employed. The later includes, Infra red, Ultra violet, Mass, static and dynamic 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and 2D NMR spectroscopy.
