BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK
6.1 NEED FOR STUDY:

Our Homoeopathic materia medica contains a lot of drug constitutions .It is not easy always to perceive the drug personality, as for every typical drug personality ,there will be a number of atypical personality of the same drug.

Constitution is the functional habit of the body determined by genetic ,biochemical and physiological endowment of the individual and modified to great extent by the environmental factors which forms the basic and main root ,for homoeopathic prescription.

This study is to understand lycopodium as a constitutional medicine. The case study will be taken up for the same. It will give an idea for usage of lycopodium in different clinical condition.

In the fast moving day to day life people are more prone for disease due to unhealthy life style. A sensible number of people especially urban areas have this problem. Lycopodium is one of the most frequently used drug in homoeopathy for such patients. Hence it is appropriate to make an in depth study of this drug as a constitutional medicine
6.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE:

Introduction:

Lycopodium was proved by Dr. Samuel Hahneman. Common name is club moss. Ordinarily moss has got very little value or no value. The fact is that It possesses immense inherent curative power in latent and dormant state. Lycopodium is a wonderful constitutional deep acting remedy for deep seated chronic disease.

Lycopodium is a deep acting medicine from vegetable kingdom with broad spectrum of action and multiple miasmatic expressions. Lycopodium is an Inert substance and does not produce much physiological effect. It only
produces symptoms on potentization

This is because the medicinal effect is produced by the oily substances present in the spores which is liberated only during trituration



Sphere of action & pathogenesis






  • Kidneys - dysuria, Brights disease ,haematuria, chronic

cystitis


  • Liver - cirrhosis of liver.




  • Gall bladder - gall stone colic.




  • Rectum - hemorrhoids, rectal fistula







  • Female sexual - chronic vaginal catarrh, varicose veins of

pudenda, Ca of uterus,(palliative)


  • Lungs - chronic bronchial catarrh, sub acute pneumonia




  • Extremities - chronic rheumatism







  • Heart - aneurism, aortic disease, hypertrophy




  • CNS - tubercular meningitis




  • Mucus membrane - atonic state, catarrhal inflammation


Preparation :

Mother tincture Q- lycopodium clavatum ,crushed spores in strong alcohol in sufficient quantity .To make one liter of mother tincture.


Clinical condition :

Asthma, aneurysm, abdominal distension , biliousness, cancer, constipation, cough, colic, consumption, diphtheria, dysentery ,dyspepsia, eczema, flatulence, gout, gall stone ,headache, heart burn, hernia ,impotency, liver affection, lower motor asthenia ,menstrual disorder, typhoid fever, urinary trouble. 2


Constitutional-appearance:

It has Grauvogl’s carbonitrogenoid constitution. It is suited especially for extremes of life both for children and old people . Lycopodium patients are intellectually keen, but physically week .Upper part of the body is emaciated , lower part is semidropsical 3


Diathesis:

Lithic and uric acid diathesis 4


Relation with heat and cold:

The patient is sensitive to cold and there is marked lack of vital heat and worse in general from cold and cold air and from cold food and drink 5


Miasms

It is Anti psoric,

Anti syphilitic ,and

Anti sycotic 6


Mental symptoms:


  • Anthrophobia fear of phantoms(children) in evening with anguish 3




  • Avaricious, greedy, miserly, malicious,pusillanimous.12




  • Abusive insulting children, parents 12

  • Cannot read what he writes 4

  • Constant fear of breaking down under stress 4




  • Child desire to be carried 6




  • Deception causes grief and mortification 8




  • Excessively merry and laughs at simplest things 3

Physical general:



  • Physical make up - Upper part emaciated lower part semidropsical




  • Desire - sweets ,delicious pastries, oyster ,warm drinks




  • Aversion - meat,bread,meat,coffee




  • Appetite - excessive appetite followed by distension




  • Sweat - smell of onion ,blood like, sour offensive







  • Dreams - of flying, people drowning ,accidents



6.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY:



  1. To demonstrate the range of Lycopodium as a constitutional remedy.

  2. To study the clinical utility of Lycopodium in different clinical condition

MATERIALS AND METHODS:




7.1 Source of data:

Sample of 30 cases will be taken who visit Homoeopathic out patient department, In patient department, Peripheral clinics and village camps of

Father Muller Homoeopathic medical college as per inclusion criteria
7.2 Method of collection of data:

The data will be collected by purposive sampling method and processed

In a standardized case record.
Every case will be analyzed reference to material medica and repertory will be taken whenever required.

The potency selection and repetition of the doses will be done according to demand of the case ,with consideration of susceptibility, sensitivity, suppression, the level of similarity ,functional changes, structural changes, vitality and underlying miasm .


Inclusion criteria:


  1. The group of people will be selected from both sexes within age group of 10 to 60 years

  2. Patients suffering from chronic complaints



Exclusion criteria:

1 .patients below 10 yrs and above 60 yrs will not be selected for the study.

2. patient terminally ill who require life support

3. patients suffering from malignant disease


Research hypothesis:

Lycopodium clavatum is an effective constitutional medicine


Null hypothesis:

Lycopodium is not effective as a constitutional medicine.

As per treatment concerned of the disease.
