Artisan Resume

Overview:

My first fifteen years as a professional artist were spent honing my skills. Encouraged by local sculptress, Waldine Tauch, Dr. Coppini’s protégé, and artist, Warren Hunter, I produced commercial pieces, architectural renderings, murals, and watercolor paintings. I developed my passion for sculpting when I studied under Chilean sculptor, Luis Guzman. I continued my practical education by working at a local foundry to acquire the skills necessary to become a proficient sculptor. Now I devote my time to the creation of commissioned sculptures and limited-edition bronzes. I have completed projects for Morgan's Wonderland, the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons, New York’s War Dog Memorial Committee, St. Mary’s University, Sandhill Shores Development, Kelly AFB, Cibolo Wilderness Foundation, the United States Air Force Academy, and University United Methodist Church. I have exhibited in numerous galleries and art shows and was selected to exhibit in the Gilcrease Museum of Art International Art Show. I was one of the 10 artists selected to represent San Antonio in the cultural exchange exhibit with our “sister city’, Kyoto, Japan. I have also received a variety of awards which recognize the quality and authenticity of my work. Author Joe Carroll highlights several of my sculptures in the book, Historic Bexar County, An Illustrated History. I believe in giving back to the community that has inspired and supported me and have donated a substantial amount of time and art to various non-profit groups: KLRN, Achievers’ Center for Education, Jefferson Methodist Church, the Ciblilo Wilderness Foundation and numerous local public schools.

Other Collaborative work:

When Doug worked as a commercial artist for fifteen years he developed Architectural Renderings (paintings of what a building would look like, taken from blueprints & elevations). He also completed freelance art projects for many of the city’s prominent Architectural firms such as: Larry Travis , RVBK, and Joel Ritzer. In addition, Doug freelanced for Harcourt, Brace & Evonivitch Publishing and created over 1,000 detailed drawings for statewide tests. As he created commissioned watercolors and sculptures, his focus was (and is) on working with individuals to bring their thoughts to reality. In all of these experiences, collaboration and accuracy were priorities. In all of these undertakings, It was essential that Doug work closely with art directors & project editors and there was no room for error.
