Alberghetto La Marianna

On the hanks of Lake Como, this family-run hotel is housed in a villa simply modernised and redecorated with a relaxing feel. Bedrooms are strictly functional, with cheery tiled shower rooms; most have lakeside views. Some have balconies, one has its own little terrace {hut no lake view). A road runs between you and the busy lake, so if you’re a light sleeper. it might he worth giving up those beautiful watery views for a room at the back, at least in summer. Paola is a delight and, in her own words, treats guests as friends. Breakfasts include homemade bread, cakes and jams; she’s also a good cook and a “mistress of desserts" try them out in the restaurant for dinner, run by husband Ty. You can eat inside and admire the ever-changing local art work lining the walls or outside where you can embrace the lake views on the terrace that juts onto the shimmering water. You won’t be short of advice here on thing to do: visit the garden and villas, boat tours to Isola Comacina, day trips to St Moritz and the Engadine.
