11th EAVP meeting – Villers-sur-Mer (France)
11th-15th June 2013

Organized by:
Paléospace-l’Odyssée, Museum of Palaeontology

First circular

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you all to the 11th meeting of the European Association of Vertebrate Palaeontologists (EAVP) that will be held in Villers-sur-Mer (France) from June 11th to June 15th 2013. The venues of the meeting will be the Paleospace-l’Odyssée and the cinema, located close to one another in the town centre of Villers-sur-Mer.

The Paléospace-l’Odyssée is a new museum, where one may discover the fossils collected in the ‘Vaches noires’ cliffs, located West of the town. It caters for all kinds of visitors, from kids and families to fossil experts, who can admire the fossil collections and the skeletons of marine reptiles, witnesses of the Jurassic times in the Villers-sur-Mer area.

In 2011, a venue was purpose-built to house this new museum near the wetland of Villers-Blonville. Only 7 km from Deauville, 200 km from Paris and 100 meters from the Channel, the geographical location of Paléospace-l’Odyssée is ideal with regards to the three main themes it aims to promote:

-Time and Palaeontology, with the proximity of the ‘Vaches noires’ cliffs, a 5 km long Callovian-Oxfordian and Cenomanian outcrop by the sea, where, thanks to erosion, new fossils become exposed every day on the beach.

-Time measurement, with Villers-sur-Mer located precisely on the Greenwich meridian.

-Time, Nature and Human Beings, with the proximity of the Villers-Blonville wetland.
