The deceased, who was but 24 years of age, contracted a heavy cold, developing into pneumonia, which resulted in his death. His wife also gets all cash in the Bank of Nova Scotia but testator wishes her not to draw any greater amount each year than the interest and fifty dollars. He was 43 years of age, and is survived by his wife, two sons, his mother (who is a resident of Sambro), two sisters and a brother. The sisters are Mrs. R. THOMAS, of Halifax, and Mrs. J. H. FINDLAY, of Sambro. The brother is William GRAY, of Sambro. Surviving are son, John and wife Gail, Masstown; daughter, Judith and husband Donald WHITTIER, Berwick; brothers, Herbert, Wolfville; William (Bill) and Gary, both of Gaspereau; sisters, Gertrude KELLY, Hantsport; Barbara (Mrs. Walter KELLY), Grand Pre; Margaret (Margie) (Mrs. Ken DeELL), Betty (Mrs. Edward ATWELL), both of Wolfville Ridge; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Gordon was employed as a miner at Falconbridge Ltd. for 41 years retiring in 1973. Beloved husband of Gertrude (Halliwell) Greenough of Sudbury. GRIFFIN, the manager of the Electric Light Company. The deceased passed away at two o'clock this morning. His sudden demise is one of the saddest events in the town for some time. Yesterday Mr. GRIFFIN was aparently in the best of health. Last evening he was out driving, and returned home shortly after nine o'clock. At tea he complained of feeling unwell and of a heaviness of the chest. Dr. MILSOM was summoned and everything done to relieve the patient, but to no avail, death occurring a few hours afterwards. The direct cause of death was heart failure, but the action of this vital organ was weakened by congestion of the lungs brought about by a cold the deceased contracted some time ago. Mr. GRIFFIN was a young man, not more than 35 years of age. He was a son of the late County Stipendiary GRIFFIN and leaves a widow, two sons and four daughters. The oldest child is 12 years of age, and the youngest not more than two mont hs. The deceased spent the whole of his life in the town and was well known throughout the community. He has been manager of the Electric Light Company ever since its organization, and very efficiently performed the duties of the office, and gave every satisfaction to the public. Mrs. Jabez CONRAD, Mrs. Richard BURBRIDGE, Mrs. Edward WARNER, Jr., and Mrs. SETTLE, of Dartmouth, are sisters of the deceased. He left one brother, who is now in the United States. GRIFFIN took place yesterday from his late residence, Maple street. The members of Court Chebucto, I.O.F., and visiting brethern, walked in a body ahead of the hearse. Following the remains were a vast gathering of people, a striking proof of the esteem in which the deceased was held by the community. All the prominent citizens of the town were present, and many well-known men of the city were also among the mourners. As the residence of the deceased was about directly opposite St. Peter's church on Maple street, the funeral went along Ochterloney, Pine and Myrtle streets before proceeding to the chapel. At the church the burial service was sung by Rev. Father Underwood, the choir singing the responses. The service was very impressive. The internment was in the Catholic cemetery. Mrs. HARDING, who was sixty-eight years of age, was a Miss DeYOUNG, of Dartmouth, and was married to Mr. HARDING, who was an Englishman, in that town, forty-seven years ago next November, the ceremony being performed by Dr. SHREVE. She was the mother of twenty-one children, six of whom survive her. These are:- William, a minister of the Disciples church, now in Illinois. James, a furniture mover, resident in Boston. The girl had been living in Halifax, but grew tired of it and went to live with her aunt, Mrs. L. BOWERS at Portuguese Cove. She took her clothing to the Cove nine days ago, and it was Friday evening of last week that she left the BOWERS house, without a sacque or hat to visit a relative in the Cove, intending, it was supposed to return in a few hours. That was the last seen of her alive. Parties have been searching the woods and lakes for miles around, and yesterday afternoon the body was found in a lake not far from her aunt's home. From marks on the body, there is a strong suspicion in the minds of the residents of the Cove that foul play has been committed, and a coroner's inquest has been ordered, when the matter will be thoroughly sifted out. She was twenty years of age, and was a great favorite in the place. HARRINGTON HAS PASSED AWAY Daughter of Famous Presbyterian Missionary to the South Sea Islands None was better known among the women of the Presbyterian church in this province than was Mrs. W. H. HARRINGTON, whose death last evening about nine-o'clock at her residence, Pleasant avenue, it is the duty of The Herald to announce. Mrs. HARRINGTON had been in failing health for a considerable time, suffering more recently from an affection of the heart, which at last proved fatal. She was the eldest daughter of the late REv. Dr. John GEDDIE, the pioneer foreign missionary of the Presbyterian church in Nova Scotia, whose heroic labors in the New Hebrides form the subject of a thrilling story and made his name a household word among Presbyterians of a generation ago. She inherited her father's love for and interest in foreign missions and was a dvoted worker in the Women's Foreign Missionary society. During recent years Mrs. HARRINGTON edited The Message, the monthly periodical which keeps the members of the society and the church in touch with missionary endeavor. Hers was a charming character, and she was loved and esteemed by the very large circle with whom she came in contact socially and in church work. In her death the community suffers a distinct loss. Mrs. HARRINGTON'S mother still survives, residing with an unmarried daughter and son, called after his father, in Melbourne, Australia. Two sisters married foreign missionaries, both of them, if we are not mistaken, also residing in Australia. Mrs. HARRINGTON'S husband, who was a member of the old firm of Lawson and Harrington, predeceased her some years ago. The surviving children are a son in Montreal; Lottie, married to George MUSGRAVE, and Emily and Lucy at home. The time of the funeral had not been arranged last night. He had been in failing health for some time, a year ago having undergone an amputation of a leg. Mr. HART was born in Guysboro on March _1st, 1819, and was in his 88th year. His father was Tyrus HART, who was born at Hartford, Conn., in 1763, and came to this country at the close of the revolutionary war, and the son was therefore one of the very few who now could claim that his father was a United Empire Loyalist. He mother was Margaret HULL, and he had twelve brothers and sisters, two only of whom are now living - Reuben and Levi. He was married in 1846 to Eliza, daughter of Francis COOK, who predeceased him about eleven years ago. There were no children. Jairus HART began business at Canso, but in 1850 came to Halifax, where he entered into partnership, establishing the wholesale flour and West India business of Young and Hart. The firm was dissolved in 187 6, and Mr. HART retired from active business. He was one of the capitalists of Halifax, was for several years a director of the bank of Nova Scotia and also its president, retiring from the latter position about four years ago. He was a leading member of the Methodist church and was known in that body far beyond this province. He was a director of the School for the Blind and was interested in other benevolent enterprises. The funeral will take place from his late residence on Pleasant street at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, the religious service to begin at 2.30. They are Charles HENNEBERRY, of Devil's Island, and Stephen DeYOUNG, supposed to belong to Chezzetcook. They were members of the crew of the schooner Munsey. This news arrived this week in a letter from Captain Wentworth BAKER, of the schooner Beatrice L. Corkum, who reports having spoken to the Munsey on December 28th. Notes: Date: 02/10/99 Mrs. William Hennessey Port Hawksbury, March 24 - this community was saddened by the news of the sudden death of at Sydney City Hospital on Sunday evening, of Mrs. William Hennessey, 38, (nee Bertha Carter) wife of C. N. R. Conductor William Hennessey, of this town. On Saturday she became critically ill and was rushed by car to Sydney, where she passed away shortly after entering the hospital. The late Mrs. Hennessey had not been in good health for some years, and her mother, Mrs. Clem Carter, constantly stayed at her home, and only a few weeks ago left to visit her daughter, Ethel, in Boston. Mrs. Hennessey then being quite well. She is expected home, accompanied by her daughter. Another daughter, Effie, who resides in Halifax, was en route to her sister's bedside at Sydney, when acquainted of her death on her arrival here. Their father, Clem Carter, spent the winter here with his daughter. Of a loving and retiring disposition she had no outside interests and will be greatly missed in the home. Besides her husband, three sons, Basil, Percy and Carter, and one daughter, Evelyn mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. The bride is a popular young lady in Dartmouth and there was a large gathering of the fair sex in the cathedral this morning to witness the ceremony. She wore a most becoming costume of cream serge, and black picture hat. Her bouquet was of pink carnations. James E. RYAN was best man. After the ceremony, which was performed by the rector, the couple drove to the home of the bride's parents in Dartmouth, where a wedding breakfast was held, and the bride received the congratulations of her friends. Mr. and Mrs. HOLLAND left at noon on a trip to the Upper Cana dian provinces. The bride's going-away costume was of green cloth with hat to match. The couple received many beautiful presents, the staff of the pilot office presenting a Morris chair. Arthur HURST, John HORN and Clyde ROBERTS went out in the bay, in a small boat for the purpose of jigging squid, and while returning home, the boat was struck by a squall and sank with all hands within a mile from shore, before aid could reach them. The Evening Mail, Monday, 3 April 1905, p. 10: The funeral of Mrs. Provo HORN took place yesterday afternoon from St. Peter's church, Cow Bay, the rector, Rev. Mr. ROY officiating. Seldom in many years has a funeral in that section been more largely attended. A large party made the trip down from Halifax while scores came in from the surrounding country, crowding the little church. The officiating clergyman took occasion to deliver a brief address, eulogizing the fine character and lovable qualities of the deceased lady, and referring to the fact that her good example should inspire to emulation. The musical details of the service at the church included the singing of the hymns "Nearer my God to Thee" and "When Our Heads Are Bowed With Woe", Miss ROY being the organist, and the full choir of the church; which was present, being supplemented by other singers from Halifax. At the grave side the hymns sung were "A Few More Years Shall Roll" and "Days and Moments Quickly Flying". The Dead March in Saul was also played as the congregatin left the church. Mr. ROY officiating. The very large attendance, in spite of the violently stormy weather, indicated the general regret at her death. Friends gathered from far and near, many driving out. The services at the house and church were beautifully appropriate to the circumstances of her death, the choir being present at the latter, and rendering the hymns, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "When Our Heads Are Bowed With Woe". Mr. ROY preached an appropriate sermon referring to the fact that the deceased lady had been a member of the church since childhood. The body was buried beside that of her father. Notes: Subject: Obituaries--Nova Scotia--Guysborough County,Canso (Guysborough County) Date: 06/26/98 The Evening Mail, 2 August 1900, p. 6: Canso, August 1 - A sad drowning accident occurred here this evening, in which three young men, ages from 16 to 18, lost their lives. Arthur HURST, John HORN and Clyde ROBERTS went out in the bay, in a small boat for the purpose of jigging squid, and while returning home, the boat was struck by a squall and sank with all hands within a mile from shore, before aid could reach them. Young HURST was the only support of his widowed mother. The sad event has cast a gloom over the whole neighbourhood and much sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents and relatives. Notes: Subject: Obituaries--Nova Scotia--Halifax County,Victoria General Hospital (Halifax),Eastern Passage (Halifax County) Date: 06/11/98 The Evening Mail, Friday, 23 January, 1903, p. 10: The death took place at the Victoria general hospital of John William, son of Charles and Emma HUTT, of Eastern Passage. The deceased, who was 19 years of age, died after an illness of only one day. He is survived by parents and by four brothers and eight sisters. Two of the brothers are Charles and Arthur HUTT, of Quincy, Massachusetts. Among the sisters being Mrs. F. W. THORNE, Mrs. S. SIMMONS, Mrs. Thomas BISHOP, and Mrs. J. CLARKE. The time for the funeral has not yet been fixed. The Evening Mail, Tuesday, 27 January 1903, p. 7: The funeral of John William HUTT, of Eastern Passage, took place Sunday from his father's residence, Eastern Passage. The remains were followed to the Episcopal church where an impressive service was held by Rev. Mr. ROY, who spoke in a very feeling manner which touched the hearts of those present, especially as this promising young man was cut off in the very prime of his life, having only been laid aside by illness one day. The sympathy of the whole section goes out to the bereaved father and mother, brothers and sisters in this , their great bereavement. His sister, Mrs. Thos. BISHOP of Quincy, Mass., and his brother, Charles, of the same place, reached home too late to see their brother.
