Key Accomplishments at Vanderbilt:
1. Cornelius (2012).

Created a hospital-wide predictive modeling decision-support system to improve quality

of care of hospitalized patients by converting admission variables into real-time

probabilities of outcomes.


2. Real-time Predictive Modeling Decision Support for Hospital Readmission.

Member of the Vanderbilt Preventing Avoidable Readmissions Team. Developed a

decision support system to convert a statistical model into real-time probability of

readmission.


3. Clinical and Translational Science Award (2006).

Instrumental in writing the biostatistical section of, and generating pilot data for, the largest grant ($46M) in the history of Vanderbilt University. Member of the VICTR Operations Committee and assist with strategic planning and management.

4. Clinical and Translational Science Award (2011).

Lead the team that wrote the biostatistical section of the CTSA 5-year renewal, which

received the best score in the country (13) and resulted in an additional $55M.
5. Vanderbilt “Go for the Gold” Employee Wellness Incentive Program.

Wrote the proposal and coined the name for the successful empolyee wellness program,

which has shifted funding from illness to wellness, resulting in >$37M savings and the C.

Everett Koop National Health Award (2008) for the best wellness program in the country.

Helped manage this program and wrote the evaluation report for the Koop Award.

6. Fortune 100 Great Places to Work.

Analyzed the employee survey data, created graphs and presentations to help Vanderbilt win this award in 2009. Worked with senior leaders between 2002 and 2009 to develop a strategic plan to close the gap between Vanderbilt and the top 100 companies.
7. Biostatistics Clinics.

Created the highly successful clinics, which provide free drop-in statistical expertise every

weekday to the Vanderbilt community.
8. Clinical Research Center Research Skills Workshops.

Together with Paul Harris created the popular training sessions, held every Friday morning

in the Clinical Research Center.
9. Corporate Health Achievement Award.

Supervised 37 quality improvement projects in Health & Wellness and provided program

evaluation analysis that resulted in Vanderbilt winning this prestigious award.
10. Clinical Research Publications.

Significantly increased quantity and quality of publications from the Clinical Research

Center during the past 12 years.
11. Improved the quality of biostatistics teaching.

Revised the curriculum of the traditional Biostatistics I course in the MSCI program and

turned it into the most popular course in the program. Won numerous teaching awards.
12. Helped recruit talented biostatisticians and build the Department of Biostatistics.

Active in recruiting biostatisticians, which resulted in increasing the number from 6 to 70

in an 9-year period.
13. Studios.

Together with Bob Dittus, helped build the successful CTSA initiatives of Studios and

published a paper describing the first four years in Academic Medicine. (107)

Current Responsibilities: Review more than 100 clinical research protocols per year for VICTR, both investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored.

sources. Participate in the design and review of clinical protocols and case report forms, including preparation of statistical considerations, sample size calculations, interim analyses, and study design recommendations.

Participate in database design, data collection guidelines, and

computerized logic checks.

Create analysis plans, generate and implement prospective

analysis validation plans.

Review statistical reports, randomization designs.

Provide statistical expertise and support to clients.

Prepare and review FDA statistical responses.

Provide expert guidance and training to biostatistics staff on

statistical procedures, methods, and concepts.

Supervise and mentor junior biostatisticians. Supervise

continuous quality improvement projects.

Project III investigates several aspects of the genetics of intestinal and hepatic drug transporters, and Project IV addresses the in vivo pharmacological modulation of P-glycoprotein.
