For company car drivers, the appeal of the new RX300 is even greater. Lined up against its key luxury SUV rivals, it has almost all of them beaten on monthly tax charges. The monthly Benefit in Kind taxation, based on carbon dioxide emissions of 288g/km, works out at just more than £335 for the Lexus – almost £90 less than for a BMW X5 3.0i and more than £80 less than for a Mercedes-Benz ML 350.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Limited has a marginally better tax performance, but the ‘saving’ of a little more than £4 will quickly disappear when you take the car’s inferior fuel economy into account: Jeep quotes a combined cycle figure of 17.7mpg for the 4.0-litre V8-powered Grand Cherokee, while the RX300’s clean and efficient 3.0-litre V6 engine is capable of 23.2mpg under the same conditions.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has awarded the RX300 and RX300 SE insurance group 15E, the same classification as the outgoing model. The SE-L version is in Group 16E.
The new Lexus RX300 requires servicing every 10,000 miles (Health & Safety Check) with major servicing required at 20,000 mile intervals. RX300 is sold with 3 years/60,000 miles warranty with 3 year paint and 12 year anti-perforation warranties.
The new Lexus RX300 will be available in three versions when UK sales begin on 16 May. The on-the-road prices and grading structure is as follows:

RX300

£28,955

RX300 SE

£33,000

RX300 SE with Lexus Navigator

£35,105

RX300 SE-L

£37,705

RX300 SE-L with Wood Finish Pack

£38,105

* These prices include the additional £5 VED charges introduced from 1 June 2003.
