NOTES: Landform/Soil: fluvial/silt loam to gravelly silt. Litt: 5-50, Soil: 5-50, Bryo: 1-5 Range Condition: N/A.

Small area on the S. end of the pasture. Soil has lots of OM from manure - feeding here in past?

Seeded recently, but very weedy and heavily grazed so very little production.

RECOMMENDATION: Re-seed and fertilize according to soil test. Weed control.

NOTES: Landform/Soil: fluvial/silt loam to gravelly silt. Litt: 5-50, Soil: 5-50, Bryo: 1-5 Range Condition: N/A.

Very similar to H1 - fluvial deposit from Cherry Creek. Gravel bars and swales in similar pattern. Most of field in poor shape.

Most of field is slender and crested wheatgrass - all heavily grazed. Cattle in at time of inspection. Drier site than H1 - less production.

N. end has light use, the center is grazed heavily and the S. end (H2a) is very weedy.

Spotted knapweed on the road to the N. of the bridge.

Small area on the S. end of the pasture is lower, but better retention of species from seeding.

Seeded recently, but very weedy and heavily grazed so very little production.

RECOMMENDATION: Re-seed and fertilize according to soil test. Weed control.

NOTES: Landform/Soil: fluvial and organic/silt loam to silty clay loam. Litt: 1-25, Soil: 50-95, Bryo: 0 Range Condition: N/A.

Small area of Salishan soils similar to N. end of H2b. Soil is very pale grey - evidence of gleying. Partially flooded or saturated part of year.

Disced and seeded recently - 18 cm (7") drill width. Rough seed bed.

Barley cover crop on the N. half. Reed canarygrass is most abundant plant after alfalfa and barley. Alfalfa heavily grazed so low production.

Not weedy to same extent as H1 and H2.

RECOMMENDATION: Re-seed and fertilize according to soil test. Weed control.

NOTES: Landform/Soil: fluvial and organic/silt loam to silty clay loam. Litt: 50-75, Soil: 1-25, Bryo: 1-5, Range Condition: N/A.

Mixed unit of Salishan and Olivia soils. Soil is very pale grey - evidence of gleying. Partially flooded or saturated part of year.

Native vegetation in good to excellent condition. Size of area hayed varies with soil moisture. Hayed in 2000 and 2001.

Channels approximately 60 cm deep draining to N/NE.

Stubble approximately 10 cm. Patches which were left were likely too wet to hay at the time.

RECOMMENDATION: Fertilize according to soil test.

NOTES: Landform/Soil: fluvial/silt loam to silty clay loam. Litt: 25-75, Soil: 1-10, Bryo: 1-5, Range Condition: N/A.

Fluvial bench - deposit from Kootenay River. Approximately 2 m higher than M2. Distinct terrace.

Root restricting layer at approximately 10 to 15 cm.

Hayed in 2001, but some patches left. Good production from this grass/alfalfa stand, but the % of alfalfa should be higher.

Cattle, deer and elk have grazed here in 2001. Water at river to the east.

RECOMMENDATION: renovate field, but lower priority than others. Fertilize according to soil test.

Mixed unit of Salishan and Olivia soils. Soil is very pale grey - evidence of gleying. Partially flooded or saturated part of year.

Adjoins H4 - similar soils and vegetation. Size of area hayed varies with soil moisture. Not hayed in 2000 and 2001.

Native vegetation in good to excellent condition.

Likely better as pasture. Wetter in the E. and N. Parts are too rough to hay on the E. side, but better on the W.

Deep drainage channels ( up to 1.5 m) draining to E.

A little lower than H2, H3 and H4.

RECOMMENDATION: Maintain as grazing land.

Native vegetation in good to excellent condition. Rarely hayed, but not recently. Some winter grazing in past.

Too wet to improve unless dike and drain.

RECOMMENDATION: Maintain as is.
