Keyboard Class Parent/Student Information
Welcome to the 2015-2016 keyboard class! Through a combination of group and individual work, our goal is that all students will be reading, playing, and enjoying music. Using your class time efficiently will make this goal attainable.

MATERIALS FEE

Students will be required to provide a set of headphones to use in class everyday. Any type of headphones will work (most of the students have iPod or “walkman” style headphones already! They are very cheap and can be found at the nearest WalMart or Dollar Store  ) We have a limited number for purchase as well. They are $2 per pair.
In addition, there is a $13.00 consumable fee for keyboard class. This money helps pay for piano books, workbooks, headphone adapters, maintenance on the instruments and supplementary music – all items which are not covered in the county budget at this time. Checks should be made to the Leon Keyboard Department.
We request that you pay the fee as soon as possible. If you need assistance with any part of the fee, please contact us as soon as possible. AT NO TIME WILL ANY STUDENT BE DENIED PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS.

CLASS RULES:

1. Food or drinks are NOT allowed in the classroom. Immediate after school “quality time” will be given on the first offense. A Disciplinary referral will be given on the second.

2. Electronic equipment is fragile and very expensive to repair or replace. We are fortunate to have these instruments and must treat them with care. Don’t push on the music rack. Negligence may result in a repair bill addressed to YOU!

3. Put only your fingers on the keys.

4. Do not talk or play while the teacher is talking.

5. At all times students and teachers treat each other with RESPECT. This is necessary for a creative learning environment in which we can develop our talents.
CLASS PROCEDURE
1. Class begins promptly. Get your materials and sit at your assigned keyboard.

2. Bring a pencil to class.

3. Have your music in class EVERYDAY. Home practice is not required.

4. Headphones must be used in class everyday. Forgetting your headphones means that you can’t practice during that class period!!!! Do not forget them!

TARDIES/ABSENCES
Tardies will only be excused with a written pass from a teacher or office staff member. Please refer to the county policy concerning absences. Remember, 10 minutes after the bell is considered “Late” (an unexcused absence!) 4 Unexcused Tardies = L (which is an unexcused absence!!!)
GRADES
Your grade is determined by weekly pass-offs, written work, performances, quizzes/tests, and recitals. The following system will be used to determine your grade:

Weekly pass-off grade/work done in class 45%

In class Recitals (up to 3 per 9 weeks) 15%

In-class quizzes (based on music theory from the workbook) 10%

Workbook check (level 1)/Repertoire learned (levels 2-4) 30%

100 %
IMPORTANT NOTE- if a student misses the fall or spring evening recital, his or her grade will be reduced by 30%. We are giving you the dates today, please arrange for your student to be there!
CONDUCT GRADES
Conduct Grades are important in determining activities in which students are eligible to participate. These grades are based on cooperative attitude, consideration for others, punctuality, coming prepared to class, proper conduct, and consideration of school property.
PROCEDURE FOR ENFORCEMENT
1. Student will be reminded of the rule. (Food or drink in the classroom will skip this step, and go directly to #2)

2. Student will be given after-school “quality time” (detention).

3. Parents will be notified.

4. Student will be referred to the discipline office.
