In may 1999, the great singer Renata Scotto gave some master classes at the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris. Through some extracts of Don Pascuale by Donizetti, Gianni Schicchi by Pucci and the Noces de Figaro by Mozart, she gets the best of each student. Passing her enthusiasm and her experience, she put the stress on the necessity of unifying words and notes, because this union triggers off expression and emotions.

A lesson by Renata Scotto : Vicenzo Bellini
Documentary (1999, 27’) with Mathieu Léocrart, Pranvera Ciko, Denis Comble-Castel, Aurélia Legay, students of th CNSM, Christophe Simonet (piano), direction by Ollivier Bellamy and Pierre-Henry Lloÿs.
This second lesson is dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini’s music. The CNSM students rehearse some extracts of Puritains, Capulet, Montaigut and the melody of Almen se non possio. According to Renata Scotto, Bellini is the composer who inspired her to improve her mastery of the melodic art. She insists about the importance of respecting any detail of the score and she affirms that this fidelity should not prevent the artist to adapt the text to his performance according to his personality and the characteristics of his voice.
