Raymond Franchetti, one of the most prestigious Paris Orchestra’s Master of Ballet died last January in Marseille. Born in 1921, Raymond Franquetti entered at thirteen years old to the Ballet de la jeunesse, at 23 years old he has been engaged as a soloist by the Russian Ballet of Monte-Carlo. After that, he was engaged by the Marquis de Cuevas Ballet. In 1947, he became first dancer at the Paris Opera and begun teaching dance at the Paris Opera Dance School in 1961 and the same time, the followed his dance carrier. Raymond Franchetti worked with the greatest choreographs: Michel Fokine, Georges Balanchine, Léonide Massine, Serge Lifar. In 1966, he devoted all of his energy to teach at the Paris Opera Dance School, the Paris Opera Ballet, the London Royal Ballet, the Stockholm Royal Ballet, the Oslo Opera. In 1971, he founded his own academy of choreographic art and his classes the most reputed dancers : Rudolph Noureev, Mikhail Barychnikov, Roland Petit, Maïa Plissetskaïä, Natalia Makarova, Margot Fonteyn…Indefatigably, Raymond Franchetti will took part in the creation of the Marseilles Dance School becoming a permanent teacher.
