Dear Mican Members,

As you most probably have heard by now, those that were present at the AGM elected me as the new Chairman for MICAN. I thank you for the trust and hope to help keeping up the fun in flying as well as the regulations put up by DCA.

For a short overview of the things to happen, please allow me to point out the action plan of MICAN for the time to come.

  1. Neither the EC, nor me are MICAN. We all are part of MICAN. With all I include the non-Members and non-Lic holders, as we all are responsible to bring them to the table. We all use the same airspace. Own farm area or controlled airspace. Makes no difference. So please lets register everybody because it surely can not be a nice experience to crash into a “ghost” in the Air just because the farm below belongs to the “ghost”

  1. MICAN is a governing body for DCA. Meaning that MICAN does not make the rules.

DCA does and MICAN applies them.

  1. The EC is busy preparing a complete list of all Micro and Ultra light in Namibia. For the records as well as for info for any member.

  1. MOP’S are in the making so that everybody knows what is expected and what is compulsory.

  1. MICAN will contact Airport owners concerning Landing fees and see what can be arranged.

  1. MICAN will contact DCA in connection with the new ATC

(Mass Distance) charges to see if they can be waved.

  1. EC members will receive specific tasks to smooth out matters. These tasks will include

    1. Microlight matters

    2. Ultra-light matters

    3. Safety matters

    4. MISASA matters

    5. Flying Competitions etc.

  1. SAFETY: This is a big issue and includes Training, Safety checks, Pilot checks, Aircraft

Checks ect. Details will be worked out and people involved will be contacted.

PLEASE REMEMBER: SAFETY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN FUN.

A cheap “bobejaantang” service might cost your life.

  1. CONSTITUTION: Some changes have to be made. To do this right we need the input from everybody as soon as possible so that we can adjust the wording and sent the new suggestions out early enough for the changes to be accepted by the next AGM.

This is your change to make a difference.
10) FLYING: This is the main factor in this whole exercise and everybody who has a

suggestion is welcome to submit them. MICAN will play a supportive role. On the

tentative agenda we have:
a) Rostock Beginning June 2007

b) Doros Crater / Uis

c) Otji-gosh 13th October 2007

d) Arandis Either end 2007 or beginning 2008

e) Omaruru Action Day ??

  1. Caprivi Flying ??

So Guys/Girls The program of MICAN is full. Lots of things to do.

The main reason why I volunteered to take up this post is to help regulate and smoothen out the system to be able to fly and have fun. I know that some members moan about the membership fee but for all the effort of MICAN, representing and negotiating for YOU at :

DCA, AIRFIELD OWNERS, MISASA, SAFETY ISSUES, FLYING DAY’S ECT.

A mere N$ 450 per year, or N$ 37,50 per month, or 10.9 cent per day

is definitely not a reason to moan about.

PLEASE GIVE YOUR INPUT, (and bring in your non licensed and non member friends)
WE ALL ARE MICAN.
THE EC OF MICAN IS NOT YOUR ENEMY, BUT YOUR MOUTHPIECE AT DCA.

Hope to hear from you in the air or on the ground.

Regards

Johan Klein
