SGHS CHOREO DANCE TEAM proudly presents the 2015 Spring Dance Showcase, featuring Choreo, All Male, Cheer and Colorguard.  Showcase on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 6:30pm, Matador Arena.  Pre-sale tickets are available now for $7 at the Student Bank.  Tickets will be $9 at the door.  – Ms. Cabral

AP STUDENTS: If you missed pre-administration last week please make time to come to E212 during lunch before Thursday, April 30.  A list of test locations will be sent to your AP teacher the week before AP testing starts.  Make sure you know where you are testing, what time you have to be there, and what you can bring!  Also, remember that absolutely no cell phones are allowed! Questions? Come see Mrs. Wright in E212.

***School Site Council is a committee made up of teachers, parents, admin and students who make decisions regarding expenditures on needs for our school and our students. We will be electing three new student members. The nominated students are: Kara Le, Isabella Tam, Kyle Qi, Linda Luong, Laura Huynh, Thinley Huang, and Emily Dong. Please come out and vote this Tuesday, May 4 in the quad during lunchtime. –Ms. Denise

***Attention Paper Recyclers! The Environmental Club's Final Paper Recycling will be after school on Friday 5/8. Please put out any newspaper, white or colored paper you want to be rid of. Thanks for participating and we'll see you again in 2015-16. C GHS Environmental Club – Mr. Osborne

***SENIORS! The Sponsorship Forms for the Seniors vs. Staff Basketball Game is due on May 4th. The applications should have been handed in on April 28th. When your applications are approved, you will get a note stating you were approved for the game. PLEASE get the sponsorship form from either Ms. Manalang (A207) or from Ms. Jung (SA6)!!!
***The Yearbook is coming!  Distribution Day will be on Tuesday, May 12 at 3 pm in H2. Before then, please come to the quad from May 4 through May 12 during lunch time to get your FAST PASS. This will allow you to pick up your yearbook quickly on May 12.  To get your FAST PASS, show your ID card and your receipt (if you have it). Then bring your FAST PASS to H2 on May 12 at 3 pm in H2 to claim your yearbook. - Plastic covers and inserts (autograph pages) will be available for $2 each. You can still buy your yearbook for $105 at the Student Bank or online at www.yearbookordercenter.com. If you buy this year's book, past yearbooks can be bought at a discount, if available. If you picked up the form from the Activities office, please pick up another one from either Ms. Jung or Ms. Manalang. GREETING, VOLUNTEERS! IT'S BUTTERFLY SEASON AGAIN! On the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd, we are celebrating one of our biggest events of the year, our annual Grand Butterfly Release! Come to the Activities Office to pick up more information.

Hi Matadors! The Art Gallery will be held on May 14th and May 15th! This is the best opportunity to show your artistic talents by submitting your artwork to sghsartclub@gmail.com or sending them to

Ms. Keller in SA8. The last day for submissions will be May 8th. During the Art Gallery, there will also be DIY buttons and pick-ups for those who pre-ordered their buttons. – Ms. Keller

ATHLETICS NEWS: FOOTBALL: San Gabriel Football will begin Spring Practices for the upcoming 2015 season on May 4, 2015. If you are interested in playing football in the fall, YOU MUST attend Spring workouts this May, along with Summer workouts/competitions which begin in June. We will practice from May 4th to May 22 from 3:15- 5:30 Monday through Friday. If you would like to sign up, please see coach Ledesma and fill out a sign-up sheet. You can find him in room S5 after school, or in the weight room. – Coach Ledesma

***FIELD TRIP ALERT!!!! ELAC SENIOR DAY & FRESHMAN JUBILEE!!! ATTENTION SENIORS! If you have applied to East Los Angeles College, sign up NOW at the Career Center for the May 8th ELAC Senior Day & Freshman Jubilee.  This is your chance to have fun, explore the campus, meet with counselors, take your English & Math assessments, and more!  Come sign up and get your permission slips at the Career Center.  Sign up now! - Ms. An

*PRE-CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT PROGRAM: Do you enjoy helping others? Are you able to remain calm and collected during crisis stiuations? Are you interested in a career in the medical field?  Rio Hondo is starting a pilot program for high school students (minimum 16 years old) interested in the nursing/medical field.  Rio Hondo's Pre-Ceritified Nursing Assistant Program is a 16 week program starting in August 2015. This course combines both theory and hands-on experience with basic nursing care.  For more information, see Ms. An in the Career Center.  Applications are due on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. -Ms. An
The National College Fair is coming to our area. Thursday, April 30 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm at the Pasadena Convention Center. Visit with hundreds of colleges and universities. This event is free and open to the public. To preregister and for more information, go to www.gotomyncf.com  ~Mrs. Marquez  
Reminders for those who have been admitted to Cal State L.A.:

         5/1/15 is the deadline to submit the non-refundable, non-transferrable $100 Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD).          6/1/15 is the deadline to declare where you will take the Early Start Program (if required).



         7/1/15 is the deadline to register and pay for the non-refundable, non-transferrable New Student Orientation.          7/15/15 is the deadline to submit all Final, Official Transcripts from every institution attended. For more details, please stop by the Career Center.   ~Mrs. Marquez
SENIORS: IMPORTANT ~ PLANNING TO ATTEND A CAL STATE?  Please register for the ELM/EPT Placement exams as soon as possible. Spaces are filling up quickly! Cal State L.A. recommends TAKING the exams by the end of March. Exams are taken once, at any CSU campus, and scores are sent to the CSUs you applied to. **Jeff Sein Kwan Yang Memorial Scholarship available to graduating seniors who meet the following requirements: 1) Graduating from a San Gabriel Valley high school  2) An immigrant or child of an immigrant AND  3) Committed to serving the immigrant community in some aspect. Open to all ethnic backgrounds. Students from low income or working class families are especially encouraged to apply. Recipient(s) will receive five hundred dollars ($500) to use for tuition and educational fees. The awardee will be notified in four weeks from the time of the application deadline. – Ms. Gomez
