MAKINO HIGHLIGHTS MACHINING TECHNOLOGIES FOR IMPROVED EFFICIENCY IN AERO PART PRODUCTION AT PARIS AIR SHOW

Machines drive improved speed, quality and cost saving in titanium and aluminum machining for next-generation aircraft

Mason, Ohio – May 2011 – Makino will showcase its latest developments in titanium, aluminum and grinding processes at the Paris Air Show from June 20 to 26 in Stand D28 of Hall 3. Makino will detail several key technologies, including the recently released T2 5-axis horizontal machining center designed specifically for the challenges of titanium machining.

“Attendees of the 2011 Paris Air Show will have the opportunity to meet with our key designers and applications engineers to discuss their unique challenges and discover new processes and technology solutions,” says Mark Rentschler, Makino marketing manager. “Makino’s technologies and engineering expertise have helped manufacturers from across the globe to dramatically increase their production efficiency. Chief technology officers, manufacturing engineers and design engineers looking to gain improved speed, quality and cost saving in their aerospace part production should look no further than Makino’s booth at this year’s Paris Air Show.”

Makino will detail several of its key machining technologies, including the T2, A7 and G5 5-axis horizontal machining centers.

Makino’s new T2 with ADVANTiGE™ provides the rigidity, dynamic stiffness, vibration damping and agility necessary for more productive machining and longer tool life in large titanium and titanium alloy aerospace parts, such as edge frames, pylons and bulkheads. Its HSK-A125 spindle is Makino’s most powerful spindle to date, delivering higher torque, horsepower and clamping force than all predecessors. The machine is equipped with an automatic pallet-changer system for continuous operations, eliminating costly downtime for part changeovers. Combined with a highly flexible Makino Machining Complex, the T2 is capable of automatic pallet transfer for extended periods of unattended operation.

Building upon the design of Makino’s widely successful MAG series machines, the A7 offers high-efficiency machining for large, complex aluminum monolithic aerospace parts. The machine incorporates Makino’s latest machining features and technologies, including Volumetric Accuracy Compensation and a high-power, high-torque spindle. The result is a fast, highly accurate, highly predictable, 5-axis aluminum machining center, perfectly suited for aerospace structural parts up to seven meters.

Makino’s G5 Grinder 5-axis horizontal machining center provides grinding, drilling, boring and milling capabilities in one machine, reducing capital equipment purchasing and eliminating out-of-cut time. The G5 also helps eliminate setups, work in process and stack-up errors due to multiple setups. With 5-axis capabilities, the G5 reduces fixture costs and simplifies the manufacturing process with NC-controlled intermittent dress. Its unique programmable coolant nozzles enable the G5 to accommodate variations in wheel diameter and changes in cutting direction while maintaining ideal cutting conditions.
