Endangered Species and Sub-species
Based on the qualitative and quantitative inventory of species in the DDBCA, their degree of endangerment was properly assessed. It is worth mentioning that during the current year, the Red List was finalised for this area, where the necessary elements are presented in more detail. The qualification criteria for different degrees of endangerment have been determined in accordance with IUCN recommendations. The Red List also included species which are not yet endangered in the DDBCA, but which are protected by a European and worldwide protection plan, through conventions that Romania has adhered to (Bern, Bonn), which fit under the “NE” category (not endangered).

The number of protected birds through this convention is large (313), of the total 331 which have been observed in the delta, followed by the 22 mammal species, of which 15 species are strictly protected, and also a total of 23 fish species of which 22 are strictly protected.
After a detailed analysis of all recorded plant species between 1991 and present in the DDBCA, combined with previous recorded data and including the provisions and the lists of species in Annex 1 (plants) of the Berne Convention, a total of eight vascular plant taxa have been selected and proposed to be included in this convention.
